Keene: So we are just supposed to pretend none of that happened?
Zadie: Yes.
Keene: Well, are we going to pretend that Maggie isn’t pregnant?
Juno: Good point.
Zadie: No we aren’t going to pretend she’s not pregnant.
Juno: Good. Because I’m happy she’s pregnant.
Keene: Me too.
Eli: You just need to pretend like we didn’t find out in the most awkward way possible.
Keene: Okay. Fine. I won’t bring it up again.
Will: Smart man.
Juno: That’s a stretch.

Declan
The pamphlet in myhand reads, “Is Breast Best?” I open it and skim the pages.
“What are you reading?” she hisses, casting her eyes down toward the pamphlet in my hands.
I shrug and nod toward the display of pamphlets on the table beside me. “Breastfeeding.”
She jerks it from my hands. “This isn’t a joke.”
I scowl at her. “Why would it be a joke?”
Her foot bobs nervously, and she stares straight ahead without an answer.
