“Do you have a plan?”

She looks down at her plate and says, “I am going to do a mural.”

I don’t know why she can’t look at me when she says this, but it makes me so happy just thinking about it.

“I love that,” I say, softly.

She slowly pulls her eyes up. “Some sort of nighttime outer space, dreamy scene. I’ve sketched a few things out.”

“Sounds amazing.” I nudge my plate toward her – offering her some of my beef. She smiles and takes a big piece with her chopsticks. I’ve ordered two extra plates for the table. I know she loves trying things, and this will give her lots of leftovers.

“I’m planning to start soon since I’ve been feeling pretty good. It’s going to take me forever.”

“What about furniture?” I ask.

“I’ve been looking. I have some ideas.” She darts her eyes away and says, “I didn’t want to do anything until after the anatomy scan. I guess I’m just superstitious or something, but I don’t want to jinx anything.”

I’m not sure how to respond to that. On one hand, she’s definitely not going to jinx anything with nursery furniture, but on the other, I get why she has anxiety.

“Okay, whenever you’re ready, let me know so I can put it together.”

She nods. “Okay, thanks.”

I’m a little surprised that this hasn’t started a fight, but I’m going to keep pushing things while I seem to be on her good side.

“Are we finding out the gender?” I ask.

She pauses with her chop sticks midair. “I’d like to. You?”

“Yeah. Let’s find out.”
