I laugh. “Well,maturityis a strong word. I don’t know if I’d go that far.”

“Yeah. You’re right,” he jokes and then pats my back. “We’re rooting for you. Both of you.”

Chapter Fifty

Maggie

“Are you hoping fora boy or a girl?” I ask. She’s nervously waiting for the ultrasound tech to come into the room for the anatomy scan. She’s been a ball of nerves all week. I’m trying to distract her as much as possible.

She gives a sheepish grin.

“What?”

“Well, I do have a preference, and I feel like I shouldn’t.”

I’m actually surprised.

“Of course, I’ll be happy either way, but...”

I smile. “What?”

“Well, the girls outnumber the boys right now. Vivi, Ansley, Hazel and Savannah.”

“The cousins?”

“Yes, poor Micah,” she smiles. “He’s so outnumbered. He could use a playmate.”

I grin. I like the way she thinks. “Elizabeth might be having a boy.”

Her smile grows. “I think she is and that’s another reason I’m hoping for a boy. They’ll be so close in age.”

I want to squeeze her hand right now, but I keep my arm at my side.

“What about you?”

“It doesn’t matter. I see a lot of upsides either way, but maybe you’re right, for Micah’s sake, another boy would be nice.”
