“Maybe I should say they tried their best?” My lips curve into a smile.

“Are your parents like them?”

I shake my head trying to reconcile the difference between Archer’s parents and mine. “My family is different. Neither one of my dads would take to drinking and fucking barely legal women to soothe the pain. Mom wouldn’t use sex and money to control my fathers.” I lift my shoulders in a slight shrug. “I see your point, but the St. Jameses love their children.”

“I’ve no doubt. Even though Finn is so full of anger, you can see that there’s good in his heart.” He checks his watch. “Why don’t we head to bed? You can tell me more about yourself and more about Finn. I would love to learn who he was while growing up.”

Do I want to share Archer’s past with him?

Perhaps. Maybe he’ll help Arch regain his memory. Is that possible? To have Archer back for good?

ChapterTen

Derek: Morning, sunshine.

Piper: I’m sunshine now?

Derek: You’ve always been a little ray of sunshine. How are you feeling?

Piper: My body aches.

Derek: Are you taking your meds?

Piper: Yes.

Derek: Liar, I know you hate medication.

Piper: I’m taking the antibiotics.

Derek: Thank fuck for small miracles.

Piper: When can I go home?

Derek: When I can take care of you.

Derek: And you can’t say that your family will, because they’re off the grid.

Piper: Do you know where they are?

Derek: No. The Organization is good at hiding their people, I’ll give them that.

Piper: They’re good at what they do.

Derek: Questionable.

Piper: Why would you say that?

Derek: We’re here because they couldn’t do things right. As an agent, Seth should’ve kept his head down and not pimped himself with a celebrity—while married.

Piper: There’s a perfectly good explanation as to why all that happened.

Derek: Enlighten me.

Piper: Technically, Teddy and Seth aren’t together. Though, they love each other… It’s complicated.

Derek: I’m confused. Can you tell me more?

Piper: It was a stupid Vegas wedding ten years ago—during Archer’s twenty-first birthday. Seth and Teddy were drunk. Archer filed the certificate without telling anyone. Up until last week, no one knew they were married—not even them.
