Derek: That’s impossible. Why would someone do that?

Piper: Archer and Seth used to prank each other. According to the video he left, he hoped Seth and Teddy would remain together.

Derek: But if he loves her, why date a celebrity?

Piper: That came from a letter Archer left, where he pushed us all to date. My aunt, who used to represent Coco, needed a pity date for her client and the rest is history.

Derek: Oh, that letter.

Piper: This was all Archer’s doing.

Derek: Speaking of Archer… I might like Finnegan, but sometimes I want to kill him for making my life miserable.

Piper: See, you understand. We’ll talk about it later. So if you want to blame anyone for this mess, blame him.

Derek: It’s ironic and funny. If we weren’t in the middle of an important mission, I would give him a hard time.

Piper: How’s everything?

Derek: Teddy and Seth are safe if that’s what you’re asking.

Piper: Are you okay?

Derek: I am, and with that, I have to say goodbye. We have to keep a watch on them.

Piper: Stay safe and keep Archer safe too.

Derek: Finnegan. His name is Finnegan.

Finnegan

The mall?

Is Theodora so vain she needs to buy new clothes in the middle of an important operation? I’m okay with that since she has a big tail of people ready to kill her. Not that I’ll let that happen. I have a deal with Piper if she dies. Her family walks away unscathed, and I get answers from her.

Derek crouches behind a steel dumpster. Seven men, heavily armed and wearing dark body armor emblazoned on the back, amble down the sidewalk toward the door labeledEmployees Only. One man lingers ahead of the group, checking each door and window for threats. One man stands watch on the roof of a parked trailer several yards away.

I can feel my heart pounding in my chest as I steady my rifle and take aim. “I’ve got ten men in sight, all armed,” I say through the communicator.

“Copy that,” Derek responds. “Waiting for your signal to engage.”

“Stand by for further instructions.”

I watch as two figures emerge from the shopping center. I look through my binoculars, spotting Teddy and Seth smiling and flirting with each other.

“Fucker, pay attention,” I mumble under my breath and in that exact moment, he tenses—as if he’s heard me.

I spot the cartel members tense, preparing to attack. I take a deep breath and steady my aim, my finger hovering over the trigger. When Seth reaches the SUV, I’m the one who shoots first to distract the cartel. Seth pushes Teddy inside the vehicle, pulling out an automatic gun. He rushes to enter the SUV.

“Cover them,” I order as I continue shooting several targets.

Suddenly, a loud explosion echoes through the parking lot, and I see several of the cartel members go down. The remaining cartel members scatter, firing wildly in all directions as they seek cover. Derek moves with my team, taking out the remaining men in a hail of gunfire.

As the last cartel member falls, I say, “Targets neutralized. The area is secure. Air, are you following the SUV?”

“I am, and they’re safe. Move. The Organization is arriving,” the leader of the air team responds.
