Which I never would.

Juniper Evelyn squirmed again and her eyes slowly opened.

Bright blue eyes.

“Oh, she’s so beautiful,” I said. “Wow. Just absolute perfection.”

To my left I heard Rome sniffling.

I looked at Atlas.

He beamed with pride. And protection.

“I’m honored to be holding her,” I said. “What a way to end this season.”

“Oh, now he’s giving a speech,” Jago said.

“It’s hitting me now,” I said. “What I wanted to say. About what this season meant. This season was about togetherness. Finding out who we were as a team. The ups and downs. On the ice. Off the ice. And at the end of the season, we have this miracle of life in Juniper Evelyn. And we have each other.”

“Ah, man, that’s good stuff,” Rome said.

“Here,” Hazel said, reaching into the diaper bag, taking out a tissue, handing it to Rome.

I cradled Juniper Evelyn as she stared up at me.

“Not sure what you’re going to call me, kid,” I said to her. “But I hope one day you realize how important you are. Your life. Your existence. And I hope one day you realize just how loved and protected you are.”

Rome let out a whimpering sound.

Hazel grabbed a tissue for herself.

“So do I get a turn to hold her?” Henry asked.

I looked at Henry and smiled.“Not yet…”

Chapter Eighteen

APRIL

Things felt sorandom at times with Seb.

As I sat in my car, debating on how to text him, I looked toward my passenger seat at the box of health bars.

It made me want to cry and scream.

I knew deep down inside there was a small little bit of jealousy, wondering if Seb had someone at his apartment.

I mean, after all -duh- it wasn’t like the guy was a virgin.

The stories I heard about him ten years ago were mind-blowing.And kind of sexy.

Seeing Seb with the occasional girlfriend or a girl hanging off his left arm, obsessed with him, I hated seeing that. Knowing that was something I’d never have.

It honestly wasn’t something I wanted to see now either.

To think one simple text message - me half being a bitch and half being a little jealous - and I ended up at a hospital.

Not that I was hurt or sick.
