Joe clamped his right hand to Jago’s left shoulder and his left hand to Rome’s right shoulder.
He directed them away.
Little Juniper Evelyn squirmed in her father’s huge arms.
Atlas gently patted the baby’s back.
Hazel stared, in love.
With Atlas and Juniper Evelyn.
“Do you need anything?” I asked. “Can we buy you dinner?”
“I won’t turn down free food,” Atlas said.
“We’re fine,” Hazel said.
“Hey, let him buy us something to eat,” Atlas said. “He’s the boss of the team.”
“I am not the boss of the team,” I said. “Plus, the season is over.”
“What a great season though,” Henry said.
“We were last in the league,” Joe said.
“But look at what we all got,” Jago said.
“This amazing family,” Rome said. “Atlas gets traded here and gets the first woman he meets pregnant.”
“Thanks for saying it like that,” Hazel said.
I caught myself staring at Juniper Evelyn.
My head tilted to the side.
“Want to hold her?” Hazel asked me.
“Really? Can I?” I asked.
“Yeah,” Hazel said.
I looked at Atlas.
He gave a small nod.
He reached his arms out.
This felt like a huge offering of trust.
All that Atlas had gone through in his life, career, and then everything that happened when he met Hazel.
Not to mention Hazel going into labor very early, leaving little Juniper Evelyn fighting for her life.
And now little Juniper Evelyn was in my arms.
Atlas kept his hands under my arms as though I was going to drop the baby.
