“No. Tell me. You’re looking at me, laughing. So tell me…”
“I just had a thought. Laughing to myself. I’m having a beer with Andy’s little sister.”
“Oh. Right.”
“But you’re not… little anymore…”
“Not little?” I asked.
“You know what I mean.”
“Maybe I don’t. Because what you just said…”
“You’re grown up,” Seb said. “You’re a woman now. It’s been, what, ten years?”
“Probably close to that.”
I know right down to the last second when I last saw you, but I won’t ever admit that, Sebby.
“Cheers, April,” he said again, this time chuckling.
We each drank a beer on the balcony, finding the dumbest things to talk about.
The conversation peaked when I asked him if he found any good seashells on the shore.
That’s when I turned and told myself to just leave, never come back. Maybe change my name, dye my hair, and move somewhere else in the world.
Instead of that, I told Seb I had to start thinking about work.
The reason I was here…
He told me not to let him get in the way.
He also told me the living room was all mine.
My version of a bedroom for the moment.
I set up my laptop and got out some paperwork.
He showed up again and tossed me a menu for a pizza place.
He told me not to be a pain in the ass and eat just lettuce.
I had no problem with that.
We decided to split a pizza covered with pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, and ham.
I had no problem eating.
After eating, I tried to work a little but Steph texted me.
How hot is he in person?
She put me, her, Poppy, and Katie on a text thread.
Details!Poppy texted.
I may or may not have saved his picture as the background on my phone.
