Taking Evie’s hand, we follow behind Calli and Daemon as the twelve of us leave the bar.
“I’m so excited,” she whispers beside me.
“Me too.”
“You’ve flown before. It’s not the same.”
“I’ve never flown with you,” I counter. “Everything I do with you is exciting. Even if it’s grocery shopping.”
“Aw.”
“Sounds like someone else is going for their fully fledged members card for the mile-high club,” Nico barks from behind us.
“Fuck off. Some of us can do romance without the need for an orgasm at the end of it,” I scoff.
“Such bullshit,” Nico mutters, earning himself a slap from Brianna.
“Ignore him, I think you’re cute.”
“Vixen, we’ve been over this. I am not cute,” I argue. “I am a mean and dangerous Cirillo soldier.”
“Nope, you’re my cute puppy dog, and I won’t have it any other way.”
With a sigh, I nuzzle her neck. “I’ll be whatever you want me to be, just… don’t tell the others.”
“Too late,” Nico says. “We’ve already heard it all.”
“Prick,” I mutter, picking up speed as we march toward our departure gate.
When we get there, Evie pulls me straight to the huge windows so she can watch the planes outside and the staff who are loading the suitcases on.
“Is this ours?”
I glance at our gate and where the tunnel we’re going to be walking down goes.
“Good chance.”
“Oh, maybe we’ll see our cases.”
“Fuck. I love you,” I blurt.
“You don’t think I’m immature and stupid?”
Wrapping my hand around the back of her neck, I turn her to face me.
We’re sitting on our knees while everyone surrounding us—bar the children—are sitting like adults, not-so-patiently waiting to get on a plane while my girl lives her best life experiencing all these new things.
“No, Evie. I love that I get to experience all of this with you. I think you’re incredible, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life figuring out all the reasons you are.”
“Alex,” she breathes, leaning into my touch as I move my hand to cup her cheek.
“I’ve never been to Florida before. We get to have that first together.”
“You’re going to make me go on all the roller coasters, aren’t you?”
“Hell yeah, I am. I can’t fucking wait.”
“Would now be a good time to tell you that I have a mild fear of heights?”
