“Doesn’t matter if you do; you know that I’ll keep you safe no matter what.”

“My hero,” she muses as the announcement comes through that first-class travellers for our flight can begin boarding.

“Ready to embark on your first flight?”

“Hell yes. Just… tell me we’re not sitting next to Seb and Stella.”

I bark out a laugh as I climb down from the seat and grab our bags.

“Here’s hoping.”

With her tucked into my side, we follow the others as they have their passports and boarding passes checked.

“Can’t believe I get to fly first class for my first ever flight.”

“Stick with me, baby. I know how to treat you right.”

“Um… excuse me, Alexander Deimos,” Stella snaps. “Who exactly booked these flights?”

“Oh pipe down, Doukas. Doesn’t Seb need his dick sucking or something?”

“Probably,” she laughs. “I told him we have to wait until the seat belt sign is off to get freaky.”

“I should probably go warn the attendants.” I pretend to take off down the aisle, but I don’t make it more than a step before her fingers wrap around my upper arm.

“Did you want to keep your balls attached to your body?” she growls.

“Yes, please,” Evie answers for me. “I kind of like them.”

“Then I suggest you watch your mouth, Alexander. It’s not too late to change my mind and send you back home.”

“Like you would,” I tease, staring her dead in the eyes.

“Okay, Hellion,” Seb says, tugging her away. “How about we don’t piss off the attendants before they’ve even closed the doors.”

I’m still laughing when he all but throws her into her seat and silences her with a kiss.

“Her friends in Rosewood… are they as insane as you lot?”

“Is that even possible?”

“Fuck knows. I’m just trying to prepare for what’s to come.”

“What’s to come,” I tell her honestly, “is the best few weeks of our lives.”

Evie listened intently—probably the only one on the plane who did—to the safety demonstration. She read every single word of the safety card tucked into the pocket of her cubby, and then she scrolled through every option available to her on the in-flight entertainment.

I, however, didn’t so much as turn my screen on, content with watching the happiness on her face with every new thing she found.

“Blake and Zay are going to hate me for this,” she mused at one point. And the second I pointed out that we had Wi-Fi, she immediately started messaging Blake photographs. And when my phone buzzed in my pocket, I found Zay’s name staring back at me, wishing us a good holiday and telling me to look after his sister.

Man, that boy is beyond cool. I fucking love him something fierce.

With Evie happy watching a movie and everyone else around us distracted, I lowered my chair, pulled a blanket over me and closed my eyes.

Fuck, I had the best friends in the entire fucking world.
