That fear grips me in a tight hold once again, its icy claws digging into my skin until it physically hurts.

Not all my family.

Please let Alex be with Zay. Please, I silently beg. If they’re together, then maybe things will be okay.

“Evie, I know you’re awake,” a quiet voice says, making my eyes pop open.

Lying on the pillow next to me is Blakely. Her big blue eyes show her own torment as she watches me.

Gianna might have said she was sleeping on the sofa, but it doesn’t look like she’s had any rest. Dark circles surround her bloodshot eyes, and there are tear tracks down her cheeks.

“Hi,” I whisper, instantly calmed by her presence.

“How are you feeling?”

“Better, I think.”

She nods, continuing to study my face for lies.

“I can’t believe you beat them. Do you have any idea how dangerous those men were?”

“No, not really. Do you?”

“Well, no. But Stef and the guys, they seem to think—”

“Stef?”

She rolls her eyes. “Stefanos. Alex’s dad.”

“Yeah, I know who he is. I just wasn’t expecting you to have given him a nickname already.” I raise a brow at her.

“It’s not. It…” She sighs. "All the guys call him it. It’s just… easier, I guess.”

“So you’re one of the guys now?” I ask, more happy to dive into this distraction.

“No, I’m not, I’m just… We’ve been living here, Evie. While you’ve been loving life with your sexy boy in that insane cabin. I’m just making the best of it.” Her eyes fill with tears, making my heart knot up. I’m the worst sister in the world.

“I’m sorry. I know. I’m sure you’ve been doing a fantastic job as his housekeeper.”

She holds my stare for a beat before she barks out a laugh.

“A good job? Have you met me? I’m pretty sure I’m the worst housekeeper he’s ever had.”

“Why did Derek get you the job? If he knew he was se…selling off then…”

“I’ve thought about this a lot and asked Stefanos,” she says, making a point of using his whole name. “He said that Derek has found him housekeepers before, and he gets a decent cut out of it. I think it might just be a coincidence that I’m out of action as a dancer and Stefanos needed someone.”

“So all of Stefanos’ past housekeepers were retired dancers?” I ask, remembering just how serious Alex’s warning had been about keeping her distance from his dad.

Have they all been hot like my sister? Is that why he clearly can’t keep his hands to himself?

“Seems that way.”

“Well, isn’t Stefanos a lucky boy,” I tease. “Your cleaning might not be up to scratch, but it seems there are some perks to having you around.” My eyes drop to her cleavage spilling from her tank with the way she’s lying and then to her booty shorts.

“What? You might not know it from in here, but it’s baking outside.”

“Sure, that’s the reason you’re walking around looking like sex on legs. Because it’s sunny.” I roll my eyes at her. “You can’t fool me, Blakely Moore.”
