Anger burns through me as his eyes glaze over as if he’s imagining doing all kinds of wicked things to her.

“She’s mine,” I roar.

He chuckles as if all of this is nothing but a joke to him.

“You can believe that all you want, but I have a contract that says differently.”

“That means nothing. That contract isn’t legally binding. You cannot buy a person.”

“Ah yes, Alexander Deimos, the future lawyer. Isn’t that right?”

My teeth grind as he lays out evidence that he knows me.

“It’s cute that you still think you have a chance.”

“They’re going to come for you,” I warn, “and when they do—”

Clapping cuts off my words.

“You think they’re coming?” the prick from the video interrupts. “It’s Peter, by the way,” he explains when I narrow my eyes at him. “Don’t you think they’d be here by now if they cared? Maybe you’re not that useful to your beloved Family after all. I mean, you’re just a rent boy, are you not?”

The growl that rips from my throat echoes around the old church, making me almost sound as furious as I feel.

“You’re a dime a dozen, you know that, right?”

“Fuck you. You’re not going to win this. You fucked with the wrong girl, and we’re going to take you down. Both of us will be dancing over your fucking grave when this is all done.”

The cunt just grins back at me, his confidence shining through.

“Why her?” I ask. “What about all the others? There must be loads. This isn’t a first for you lot. You’ve been trafficking people for years with the help of Victor Harris. Why Evie?”

“Grant was right,” Vincent pipes up for the first time after being happy hiding behind these two pricks. “Evie was special. And to think, Derek tried to refuse to hand her over to us.”

“What?”

“Yeah,” Vincent laughs, “I was shocked to discover that he has a decent bone in his body too. Or maybe it’s just a soft spot for our little Evie. She is rather tempting, after all.”

“Why didn’t he want to hand her over?”

He shakes his head. “Told us we were stupid to trade someone who would be missed. Knew she’d cause trouble.”

“So why did you?”

“Alexander,” he mutters darkly, “something tells me that you know exactly why. An innocent, pure young woman like that comes with a hefty price tag, and lucky for me, these two gentlemen here were more than willing to pay the price I put on her head. If only you took me up on the offer the night we met. She could have been yours.”

“You’re sick. All of you are fucking sick.”

“Rich, really, coming from a Cirillo soldier, don’t you think? Just think of all the things you’ve done over the years… I’d say we’re in good company, all of us right now,” Vincent states.

I can’t help but laugh at his assumption. “I’ve never once harmed an innocent woman,” I argue.

“What about a guilty one?”

My teeth grind once again. They know as well as I do that we don’t discriminate by sex when we’ve been wronged. Fuck us over and we’ll fuck you right back, gender be damned.

Movement behind my three-man firing squad catches my eye, and my gaze lands on Zay wiping tears from his cheeks.

“Let him go. I don’t care what you do to me. Just let him go. Please,” I beg.
