“Try not to spend it all at once.”
Her light footsteps hit my ears but before she does the wise thing and leaves, she pauses.
“What’s your name?” she whispers. It’s so quiet at first that I think I imagine it but when I look up and find her studying me, I realise I didn’t.
My heart pounds as I stare back at her, the need to answer her simple question almost too much to deny but as I squeeze the watch tighter in my hands, I’m reminded of why she’s even here.
“Get the fuck out of my house, little thief.”
And with that, she bolts from my room leaving only the sound of her cries behind.
I fall back onto my bed with a smirk pulling at one side of my lips as my eyes lock on her shoes that she left behind as if she’s fucking Cinderella.
“Until next time, thief. And there will be a next time.”
