Page 56 of Her Three Bosses

“Time flies when you’re fucking a beautiful woman senseless,” Lucas said with a smirk.

I handed Brooke her swim coverup as I walked to the front door to greet the agents on the case. We’d been waiting for news ever since the day the mobsters had kidnapped Brooke. My heart picked up its pace a little. All we knew was that Trevor and Dane were in custody, but we still didn’t know why any of this had happened.

I greeted Agent Marsh, a middle-aged woman with her hair cut in a bob. She’d been put on our case after they got everyone in custody.

“Come in,” I said. “Everyone else will be in shortly.”

I got her seated in the casual dining room and grabbed the others. They greeted the agent and sat down, too, the anticipation making the energy around them crackle.

“So, let’s cut to the chase,” Agent Marsh said. “Trevor and Dane were trying to curry favor with the mob. From their confessions, they wanted the mafia to essentially invest in them and use their business to launder their cash, taking a cut. Trevor is the cousin of a lower ranking official, which is how he got introduced to the life in the first place.”

“But how did Dane meet Trevor?” Brooke asked.

“Dane is dating Trevor’s sister. She’s been notified and taken to a safe location,” the agent said. “And Dane is actually the one who gave Trevor the idea to use the casino as another point to launder their money. The people in the crime ring bought a bunch of chips with their dirty money, bet a little of it, and cashed out at the end of the night. The cheating that you reported was a way for them to maximize their earnings without taking on extra risk. Once Trevor got busted, the criminal element didn’t want to risk being there anymore.”

Brooke nodded as if things were clicking in her head.

“So the men who kidnapped me wanted to threaten Chase, Lucas, and Hunter into talking about what they knew of their operation?” Brooke asked. “Then kill us since we knew too much?”

“Yes, essentially,” Agent Marsh said. “But thankfully, that didn’t happen.”

“So Dane is going to rot in jail?” Hunter asked.

“Yes. And Trevor, too. The evidence is stacked against both of them, so they should be in jail for a long time.” The agent pulled out her business card and handed it to Brooke. “If you ever need help, or if anyone associated with Trevor and Dane tries to contact you or threaten you, reach out to me. That’s my direct line.”

“Thank you,” Brooke said. “I have plenty of security around me, but I’ll definitely be in touch. I wouldn’t want them to hurt anyone else.”

Agent Marsh smiled and thanked us for the quick moment of our time. Brooke led her out, the two of them laughing at something Brooke said. We watched them until they disappeared into the house.

“So we’re good now?” Lucas asked. “We won’t have to worry about the mafia taking up all of our gambling tables?”

“I guess so.” Hunter shrugged, sipping his beer. “The most important thing is that Brooke is safe.”

“True.”

The weight of worry that had been weighing on my shoulders lifted. I rolled my shoulders and shook out the tension in them. The future felt brighter now that we didn’t have this dark cloud hanging over us, and I was excited to see where we went.

BROOKE

One Year Later

“You guys, getting on a private jet and justgoingsomewhere without knowing where I’m going is still pretty crazy,” I said, holding onto Lucas’s hand. He pulled me up the stairs of their private jet. Ours, technically, but it still felt weird for me to say I had something like that.

“But that’s the fun of it,” Lucas said. “Plus, we get to see your surprised face when we land.”

“Seriously, the look on your face always makes it worthwhile,” Chase added.

They had a point. After everything was settled with the casino, the three decided to sell it. Since it had gained some notoriety for being a mafia hot spot, someone had paid over asking price for it to turn it into a tourist spot for people who wanted to feel dangerous. I had no idea how that was going to work out for the new owner, but it took the casino off the guys’ hands.

They had more than enough money to not work for the rest of their lives, but they agreed to take two years off with me to think of their next business ideas. Hence, the trip. They’d surprised me with trips all over the US and the world, from Bali to New Zealand to Japan. Vegas was still our home base, since the guys had a huge house built for all of us, but traveling with them made home feel like everywhere.

I loved every minute of it. I hadn’t had the chance to travel much at all before, and now jetting off to some unknown place was almost the norm.

I still wasn’t a fan of flying, though.

Hunter was already on the plane, sitting down with an open spot next to him. I got into place, curling up against him. He’d softened up a lot since everything went down, and now he was the first one to comfort me in moments like this.
