"She’s feeling sick. Couldn't face the drive," Colt said, calmly enough.

Ash nodded, then flashed Colt a double take. Ash knew what sickness meant, a possible pregnancy?

Colt grinned dopily back and confirmed Ash’s guess.

Ash raised his eyebrows and said smiling, "Well, sick eh? That's... worth celebrating, hey? I'd shake your hand but..."

Colt nodded, understanding. "Too early for any of that, brother, and she's feeling so rough it seems not worth getting excited about..."

"Fuck," Ash said, shaking his head. "Anyway, how’s the MC?" Ash asked.

Colt gave him a long look. “I mean we've got a long way to go yet, Lyle just got out of rehab and is behaving like a sourpuss. He's doing as he's told though. Shadow’s getting the hang of his chair now, he can wheel himself around the bar, or what will be the bar area anyway. Your ex, Dane, he’s coming down to do some tattoo work…”

Colt checked Ash was okay about that. Ash felt completely fine, he felt nothing in him that reacted to that. Dane and him were friends really. All fine, all amicable.

“Renovation work has started on the hotel-"

"Oh yes?" Ash sat forward on his chair.

"Yes, that local building firm, Jennings, agreed to take it on."

"They good?"

"Yea, good crew, ex-military. The manager, Jared, basically recruited his old unit after they finished their tour. They do as they are told, don’t ask any questions. Solid workers. Grafters. Jared's cool, too, has an Indian scout-"

"Nice wheels-"

"Yeah, he said he didn't want to join up but... I can tell he's interested. I'll keep working on him."

"Yes do, what does he look like?" Ash asked.

Colt shook his head good naturedly. "Not that it matters, but he's right up your alley. Big, tall, hairy, bearded, deep voice-"

"Stop, sounds dreamy already."

Colt snorted with amusement.

“And business?” Ash asked.

Colt tilted his head. “I mean, as you know, fucking Demonios, we’re due to start escorting shipments for them. Just a few of us on the bikes, either side of their lorries. I fucking hate their guts but…and the Guardians of Purity, yeah we are going to be delivering for them…no idea what, conversations are ongoing. Blue keeps piling more and more pressure on-”

Ash frowned. “Blue?”

“April’s father. Fucking former Prez. And FBI agent. He has my balls in a vice…” Colt trailed off, seething.

Ash loved that the MC was working alongside the FBI. All of them, informants at some level. And even the suggestion that FBI agents will infiltrate the MC as members too. Fucking thrilling. Ash couldn’t wait to get out there and start framing the real bad guys.

“There’s talk of the Armenian’s too, a family call the Zakarian Syndicate…I don’t know, I don’t like how we’re getting our hands dirty with so many gangs… could get messy.” Colt sighed and looked at Ash. "You doing okay then? Staying out of trouble?"

"Yeah, of course, I-" But Ash trailed off, his eyes snagging on someone who was now walking into the room.

Nix.

Nix strode in and scanned the room, eyes catching Ash's, lingering. Ash didn't dare to breathe. His mouth went dry.

"Oh, fuck," Colt muttered, but Ash couldn't tear his eyes from Nix.

Nix had his attention torn from Ash by three people greeting him. What was very obviously some sort of priest or pastor, and an older man and woman. His parents? Nix got his bone structure from his mother but his build from his father. Nix didn't look happy to see them. He looked murderously pissed off. Ash was beginning to crave that look. His dick kicked in his pants.
