“Let me at him, Prez, let me make him feel sorry, let me take him upstairs and fuck him up-” Nix made a mean face and chest bumped Lyle threateningly.

Lyle’s face was pained. “Oh, nice, thanks, Nix-”

Nix bared his teeth into Lyle’s face.

Ah crap, things were escalating. Ash hopped off his bike.

“Prez, we vote. You aren’t Cleaver, remember?”

That stopped Colt in his tracks. “What do you mean?”

Ash cleared his throat. “Yeah, Lyle’s fucked up, but we don’t just cut and run on someone. We’re the Black Coyotes. We stand by our brothers-”

“Yeah but Lyle’s already had a generous portion of our forgiveness-” Colt hissed.

Ash held his ground. Standing up to his Prez was not something he took lightly. “And so we give again. We got more. We give infinitely. Come on, Prez, we have to be there for Lyle.”

Colt was conflicted. “If we vote on it, it stands-”

“Yes, sure,” Ash hastily agreed, trying to count in his head who would be voting for Lyle to stay. Working out who he could influence, cajole and pressure into voting yes. Him and Nix, Max probably, Phantom would vote out and Ash wouldn’t be able to influence that, so Ash could work on Jared and Sully…

Lyle rolled his eyes, clearly not seeing Nix and Ash were trying to save his skin. “Just fucking kick me out! I get it, I’m dead weight, I’m costing you money, I’m endangering the Black Coyotes’ standing-”

Colt loomed into Lyle’s face. “Yes you are. But Black Coyotes aren’t thirsty for money or power, Lyle. We’re thirsty for one thing and one thing only.”

Lyle scoffed.

Ash gulped.

Nix winked into Lyle’s face.

“Family. Lyle,” Colt continued, “Black Coyotes are family. I’m not Cleaver. We vote. Tonight. Lyle to stay or go. End of discussion. Nix.”

“Yes Prez,” Nix said simply, dragging Lyle by the scruff of his neck into the clubhouse.

Ash nodded at Colt, who looked like he was about to throw up, before slamming his helmet back on his head, and revving back out onto the road.

Next stop, Penny’s. And she better be fucking up for the ride of her life.

“It’s his beer,”Penny muttered, as Ash hustled her in through the brass double doors into the MC clubhouse.

“Huh?” Ash responded distractedly. He’d ridden like a bat out of hell to get to Penny’s massage clinic. He’d burst into the reception in his black leathers, a waiting room full of alarmed citizens had stared up at him as he’d demanded to know where Penny was. Then he’d had to explain as quickly as possible how she needed to get on the bike with him right away.

She’d complained about patients and cancellation fees but he’d talked her out the door and on the bike and got her through to the clubhouse.

“Where did Nix take Lyle?” Ash hissed into the bar.

Rafe was still ogling the weather reporter on TV. “Penthouse,” he replied without tearing his eyes from the screen.

Ash had sworn and maneuvered Penny over to the private elevator to the penthouse suite.

“So I think he’s filling up his beer bottles with something stronger…”

Ash turned back to what Penny was saying now they were in the quiet of the elevator ride up. “Huh?”

Penny smoothed her hair down. “When he cracked his head on the pool table, that wasn’t beer he was drinking. And the other night, he filled up the beer bottle from a bottle under the cabinet in his room-”
