Just as I thought, her door opens and they both step out. Her hair is mussed though, so I know they were up to something. There is a lot about them she didn’t tell me, and I want to find out. She’ll tell me when she’s ready. She moves over toward me, while he goes to talk to some guys.

“How are you doing?” I ask her as I slide the bottle of whiskey and a glass toward her.

“I should be asking you that.” She laughs as she pours a shot and downs it. I watch her do it one more time before I catch her looking at him. “I can’t believe he thinks I’m going to just forget what he did to me.”

“What was his reason?” I laugh because I’m kind of in the same boat with Thad. He doesn’t understand this part of my life. I can’t leave them, but he wants me to. He also wants me to run and hide. I can’t and won’t do that.

“He was protecting me.”

I can’t stop the scoff when it comes out, but I stop instantly when I see who walks in the door. I should have been contacted by the gate that he was here.

“Oh yeah, I approved.” River laughs and moves off.

I walk right up to him. Taking him in as my high-heeled boots move across the room. He’s in a pair of brown Carhart jeans, a long-sleeved blue Henley, and a pair of work boots. His wavy hair is brushed back, and he’s not looking at anyone but me. For the first time in a long time, I feel exposed. He has the ability to break me completely, and I know he knows it. But I keep pushing him away.

“What are you doing here?” I hiss low when he’s close. He pulls me into his body and smiles down at me. His scent of the pine, outdoors, and him hits me hard.

“I came to hang out with my girl.” He laughs like it’s no problem he’s here.

“You can’t be here.” I try to move away from him, but his grip on my hips tightens.

“Why not? It’s a party meant for everyone associated with the club, right? I’m your boyfriend,” he says loud enough that people are watching us. I pull away again and grab his hand, pulling him toward my room. I stop at the bar and look at River.

“Jinx, you got this?”

“We got it,” Reaper says from behind her as he wraps an arm around her shoulders. I see a guy who was making a beeline for her turn and walk the other way.

“Come on.” I pull Thad down the hall past my office and into my room here at the clubhouse. I push him inside and watch as he takes it in, and I do the same. The room is sparsely decorated with only a dresser, nightstand, and a queen bed in the corner. I stand next to the door, seeing what he sees.

“I wanted to hang out with your friends and get to know them.” He sulks and moves back to the door, but I lean against it. I watch his eyes drag up and down my body again. Earlier, when I walked up to him, he took me in and it almost made me flip my hair. Well, if I had longer hair I would have.

“Why don’t we stay in here?” I start to push off the door.

“Don’t you want me to meet your friends and hang out with them?” His question takes me aback for a moment.

“I do. But you’re a trooper, they aren’t going to want to relax around you. You are going to have a hard time not thinking about how many laws they are breaking,” I state the obvious.

He walks to me and cages me against the door. “I’m only going to be thinking about all the men looking at you in this getup.” He drags his hand across my abdomen and under the edge of the tank that barely covers it. “I’m going to think about all the men I’ll kill if they see your silky skin,” he growls before he leans down, his elbow braced against the door next to my head. Instead of kissing me, he sucks my bottom lip into his mouth and bites it, pulling away slowly. I moan and arch up into him. My hands go to his waist and I hang on to him.

“Since when did you become so jealous?”

“I’ve always been like this with you, you just didn’t notice it before. But I won’t share you, Riddler.” When he says my road name, I lean up and slide my hands into his hair and pull him down to my lips.

We connect. Our lips brushing each other, over and over. He takes the kiss deeper when he slides his tongue against my lips, and I open for him. I let him lead, giving him everything that I am in this kiss. I want to trust him again. I want him to be a part of my life just as much as he’ll be a part of Sky’s. We kiss and kiss for longer. Our heads turning. Our tongues sliding. His scruff rubs against my skin, and it turns me on more. His grip on my ass tightens, and I jump up into his arms as he stands to his full height.

I feel him moving and then the bed under me. He helps me from my vest and carefully folds it before putting it over a chair. I’m impressed that he understands the significance of my cut. The way he treats it with the same reverence that I do.

He pushes me back and I fall onto the bed. He lies over the top of me, caging me in. My hands go to his waist and hold on to him as I look up into his blue eyes. Eyes that even though we’ve been apart for ten years I look into every day because of our daughter. I had no hope of ever getting over him. I saw him in her eyes and in her actions. She’s just like him.

“I’m going to hang out with your club. They are going to get to know me. And every man is going to know you are mine. Got it?”

I don’t want him to know how much his possessiveness turns me on. I love it. My nipples pebble behind my tank top and my core spasms. But I need to know more.

“Why?”

“I’m not going away. I lost ten years with you and I’m going to try to make up for them every chance I can. So I’ll hang out with you here, as long as you don’t mind coming with me to AST events? You’re my girl again, Scout.”

I reach up and press my palm to his scruffy cheek. He leans into it and I see the calm wash over him. “We can’t live every day for what we missed. Let’s just go from now. We will live our lives every day to the fullest. That’s all we can do.”
