Hey…I lost my phone but it’s all good now. We’ll talk later.

After sending Danielle the text, I released a deep breath, then lowered my full weight to the bed again. In a few minutes I was fast asleep, and my mind drifted into a numb zone.

Tommy was exercising in the backyard later that evening when I woke up, and he paused with his kicks when he saw me.

“Care if join you?” I asked when he turned to me and took off his earbuds.

“You’re not fit enough,” he refused.

“I’m stronger.” I flexed my arms and hinged my shoulders up to prove it, but he only laughed and shook his head.

“No way I’m risking that. Just sit and watch…You can learn basic moves.”

I nodded, then moved to the back porch stair and sat there.

Tommy put his earbuds back on, then continued with his moves. I watched his kicks, and how every muscle in his arms contorted when he threw a fist forward.

When he did a spin on the ground and landed on both feet with balance, I completely forgot where I was and cheered for him. He smiled as he turned to me, and his eyes gleamed.

“Go on,” I encouraged, but as he continued my attention slowly drifted from learning the moves to admiring his body. It was hard not to admire his lean but well-built look. My fingers itched to touch every ounce of him, and a shiver rocked through me when that desire rummaged through my system.

Tommy’s body was made for a woman’s pleasure, and I longed to have those arms around me again. Being with him like this made me feel safe. He was strong enough to protect me, and he was right there at every turn.

I got lost in admiring him, and I didn’t even realize he had noticed me staring. My right hand rested on my chin with support from my thighs, and my mind wandered with lustful thoughts of me trialing my hands down his sleek body and kissing his hardness.

Heat burnt my cheeks when his deep voice calling my name cut through my thoughts.

“Are you with me?” he queried as his full brows furrowed together.

“Ah, yes, yes,” I gasped and blushed vividly. Of course, I was with him, but not just in the way he was thinking.

Thedayrolledby;I observed Leah closely to make sure she was well. She went about her activities with ease. She was up early, and she trained with me in the backyard before we had breakfast together.

She spent her afternoons at Belly Row while I went to work. The cops still had no lead on the driver, but they found out the truck was abandoned after its previous owner passed away. The owner had two sons, one of whom is currently hospitalized for a hit-and-run case in Nashville. They didn’t give many details.

My meeting with my client was for 4 p.m., and I was already dressed in a black suit and tie when I walked into the kitchen to find Leah pacing around, one hand on her hip and the other one on her lip.

I noticed she was chewing her finger, and that proved she was fussing over something in her brain.

“What is it?” I asked without hesitating. She turned to me, and my breath hitched in my throat due to the intensity of her brown eyes made my core tighten. The flush of adrenaline that spiraled through me wasn’t sudden at all. I felt it each time I looked at her, but today was different.

There was something magnetic about her wide brown eyes as they held onto mine. Leah never wore make-up, at least not since she arrived here, but I was always drawn to looks either way. Her smooth skin, and the sweet rosy pink of her lips. She stopped chewing on her nail and shook her head.

“This is the one-in-a-million opportunity, but I can’t take it.”

“What are you talking about?”

She handed over her phone, and I took a quick peek at the page. It was a contract to produce music, and I only scanned through it, but I already understood the baseline of what it was about.

“Henry Truman is offering you a huge deal. It’s a lot of money to sign with his record label and a deal like this can skyrocket all of your careers past the point you have ever dreamed of. It’s a deal you should take, Leah.”

“I know … I know and that’s what kills me because I can’t take it.”

“What do you mean can’t take it?”

“You’re not going to understand even if I tell you.” She shook her head and turned her back to me. I watched her pace around the kitchen for some time again and admired the curve of her hip while she walked.
