She crosses her arms in front of her chest. I can tell she has lots to say but surprisingly she is keeping her mouth shut.

“This has gone on long enough. This is blatant disrespect. I kept my quiet because he’s your son and not mine, but I won’t tolerate it anymore. You have a real nasty temper. I don’t understand how you can treat him like this. He didn’t do anything. You were the one who had the affair with me, betrayed his father, and broke up the family you guys had. He should be the one angry and lashing out at you;however, he never has. It isalwaysyou. Enough is enough, Marcia. I’m tired of it,” Hank lays into my mom.

Her eyes narrow in on him. There’s death in her eyes. She’s about to pounce on her prey– Hank.

“After all of these years, you decide now to grow a pair of balls, Hank?” she scoffs.

Shots fired.

“Mom. Dad. Please, don’t fight,” Jenna whispers.

“No one is fighting, Jenna,” Hank replies calmly.

“We are just talking. Right, Dear?” my mother says sweetly, but there is not a damn thing sweet about her voice. It’s pure venom.

I unlock my phone and look for Ysenia’s number. I had her put it in my phone before I got out of her car. Her number is all the way at the bottom of my contact list. I open a message and send:Time is up here.

“Don’t leave. Please. We haven’t shared a meal together in forever,” Jenna sighs.

And whose fault is that?

Ding.My phone notifies me of a text. I open the message. It is from Ysenia.

“What happened?”her message says.

“My mom’s usual tangent,” I reply.

“I’m sorry. Want me to come get you?” she replies in seconds.

“Not sure how much more of her shit I can take before I snap.”

“Deep breaths. I’m on my way. Give me fifteen minutes.”

“Miguel, I’d really like to share a meal with you, but I’d understand if you feel you need to leave,” Hank says, looking at me.

“My ride will be here in fifteen minutes,” I state. Jenna looks disappointed. My mom looks victorious. Hanks seems to be relieved and jealous that I’m able to make an escape.

“This is all your fault!” Jenna screams at our mom, who simply shrugs. “You’re a horrible human being! I hope you know that.”

“You’re always whining about something. If it wasn’t for you being a hussy, he’d be able to invite Ysenia here for dinner and he’d stay longer,” my mother replies without missing a beat.

“No one wants to share a meal with you,” Jenna retorts.

“So this is my fault?”

“You are so far in denial it is absolutely pathetic!” Jenna's screams echo throughout the room. As expected, World War Three starts.

My mom flies off the couch and begins tearing Jenna a new one. Jenna stands up and doesn’t hold any punches lashing back at her. They proceed to call each other every name in the book as though they’re total strangers instead of mother and daughter.

Hank looks at me and shakes his head. I’m sure he wishes he could leave with me. However, his leaving would be the end. He’d never be able to come back because my mother would kill him as soon as he stepped foot back in the house.

Poor bastard.

“Care to share another drink before I leave?” I ask, standing up in between Jenna and my mom. They stop arguing and look at me.

“Would love one,” Hank replies. He stands up and we make our way over to the bar.

“Seriously. You’re drinking right now?” my mom gasps.
