“You know what? You have a lot of damn nerve!” Jenna stands up and points a finger at her. “Youare clearly who I took after. Like mother, like daughter, I guess. You taught me well, huh?” she smirks.

“You little bi–” My mom shrieks at the top of her lungs.

“Both of you, calm down,” Hank orders loudly.

So glad Ysenia talked me into this,I groan to myself. A few more minutes of this crap and I’m going to text Ysenia to come pick me back up. That was our agreement. I would come talk to my mom and Jenna and in exchange, Ysenia would pick me back up as soon as I texted or called.

“How is Ysenia holding up, Miguel?” Hank asks, looking at me. My mom and Jenna turn their attention to me.

“She’s… she’s holding up,” I reply.

“She hate me?” Jenna asks in a shaky voice.

“She isn’t talking about it. She just wanted me to come here and talk with you guys.”

“Oh,” she whispers. Heartbreak fills her eyes as do tears.

“Sorry but I’m not going to lie.”

“No. It’s okay,” she smiles weakly. “I never meant to hurt her. Neither did Kevin. It just kind of happened. We tried to ignore it but…”

The look in her eyes shifts. She seems to be reminiscing. Thinking of a happier time.

“He’s my soulmate, Miguel,” she smiles but it vanishes quickly. “I didn’t want him to be. Ysenia is… was my best friend. She was engaged to marry him and here I am about to marry him. I’m a real sweetheart, huh?” she scoffs.

“I’m glad you found your soulmate, Jenna. But couldn’t you have talked to Ysenia when it all first happened? Why’d you drop your friendship with her and leave the damn country to avoid her? What did that fix?”

“You think I wanted to go to such extremes?” Jenna rolls her eyes. “How am I supposed to tell someone who is like a sister to me that I not only slept with but fell in love with her fiance?”

“Oh come on, Jenna. Jesus,” Hank groans.

The feeling is mutual. I don’t want to hear about her damn sex life. It was already insinuated. She could have spared us.

“I like how we are all grown-ups but you can’t handle talking about sex,” Jenna rolls her eyes.

“You’re my daughter, Jenna. Why on Earth would I want to hear about that?” Hank grimaces.

“It’s human nature, Dad. It’s just sex. Everyone does it,” Jenna sasses.

“This isnotwhy I came here,” I frown.

“Oh, geez. Not you too,” Jenna shakes her head. “You two are something else.”

“I’m just here to make amends and be on my way.”

“You aren’t even going to stay for dinner?” My mother growls. “Typical, Miguel. All about himself.”

My mom annoys me to no end. She always has an opinion about everything and is such a damn hypocrite. Out of everyone in the family, she’s the most self-centered. Jenna is a close second. I suppose I would third and then Hank. I don’t think he has a single selfish bone in his body.

“On that note,” I say, digging my phone out of my pocket.

“No! Don’t leave yet. We haven’t spent any time together,” Jenna blurts.

“I’m not going to sit here and be insulted the entire time, Jenna. I refuse. I’m not a little kid anymore. I won’t stand for that ever again,” I inform her.

“If he wants to leave, let him,” my mother replies. Hank turns to her and growls.

“Are you not human? How can you be so mean to your own son, Marcia?” Hank states. My mom opens her mouth but he shakes his head. “I’m not done. So just listen.”
