The perfect ending to a perfect moment. His words are like music to my ears. My heart skips several beats. It feels like there are hundreds of butterflies in the pit of my stomach and I want to shout from the tallest mountain how happy I am.

“I know we have a lot to learn about each other, but I’m definitely excited to,” I reply cheesily, instantly groaning and regretting my words. “Ugh. That was lame.”

Nico laughs and shakes his head.

“Not lame at all,” he smiles. “I’m excited too, Beautiful. Tomorrow, I’ll take the day off and take you out on a real date. How does that sound?”

“You sure you can take the day off? I mean, you’re a pretty important guy.”

“But you’re more important,” he assures me, sealing it with a kiss. “I’ll prove it to you. This will work. I’ll manage… business and our relationship. And, if you ever feel like I’m not giving you enough time, tell me and I’ll fix it. Okay?”

“Okay,” I nod. “And, if I’m ever being too needy or if something isn’t my business, just tell me. Deal?”

“I don’t mind sharing everything with you, Mia.”

“Yeah, but some things are better if I don’t know. Ya know?” I give him a knowing look and he laughs.

“Fair enough,” he nods. “If I think it’s too much for you to handle, I’ll tell you that it’s better left alone. That way you don’t think I’m trying to hide stuff.”

“Thank you.” I cuddle up against him. He holds me close to his body and kisses the top of my head.

“I really want this to work out.”

“Me too.” I wrap my arm around his waist. “For the first time in a long time, I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.”

“Happiness,” he replies smoothly. “Tomorrow will bring you happiness. And the next day. And the day after that.”

“Then it sounds like everything is going to work out just fine, Mr. Santoro.”

“I’m looking forward to many tomorrows with you, Miss Caldwell.”

And just like that, I realized Nico had stolen my heart. Things may have been a bit unorthodox but there’s no denying how he makes me feel. From his great looks to his great personality, I like everything about him. He makes me feel alive, wanted, and cared for. All the things I’ve been missing until now.

Nico Santoro may very well be my happily ever after.

Epilogue

Nico

Two years later…

“I don’t care what your excuse is. You said it’d be here today so it should have been here today,” I yell into the phone.

“Sir, we apologize but the truck was delayed at port and then–” the customer representative explains calmly.

“I don’t give a damn what the excuse is. I just know that my little girl’s present better magically appear at my house, today!” I retort.

Basque and the guys are sitting around the meeting table, trying to keep from laughing. I guess the fact I interrupted our very important sit-down because the toy store called is pretty hilarious. Two years ago, I never would have thought I’d be this type of guy.

“What’s the problem?” my father asks, walking into the room with his guys behind him. Everyone stands, including me.

It’s my father’s first sit-down since getting out of the hospital three months ago. He still has me in full control but wanted to sit in on today’s meeting just to show face.

“They say the delivery is delayed. Giulia’s toy was supposed to arrive today,” I complain. My father frowns and makes his way over to me. He takes my phone from me.

“Who the fuck are you to tell my son that his little girl’s present isn’t going to arrive here?” he snaps. “I don’t give a fuck who you are. If my granddaughter wants a real fucking bull from Spain then we make it happen. How hard is it for you to get some toy ride-a-long thing? Are you a fucking schmuck?”

At this rate, Giulia is never going to get her toy. My dad is going to have the guy put us on a blacklist. I was at least trying to be semi-nice to the guy, not my dad. He’s going full Italian mode on him. He has a sweet spot for Giulia and will burn the world down for her. No questions asked.
