Page 14 of The Love for Pain

The darkness intensifies the cold surrounding me. My face becomes numb from the pain. My heart weakens despite my anger. And my faith dwindles even when I am praying to Satan.

Just when my mind is about to go into shock, Sasha's lovely smile crosses my mind. Her caresses make me feel alive. The heat we shared brought down the coldness around me. The thought of her name keeps me wanting to survive.

I never loved him.But remembering those words, I die.

My knees wobble as I pass through the entrance of my father's hotel and lose balance. A man rushes and holds me before I can fall. "Be careful, beautiful Mama," the deep voice pulls my eyes towards the man.

He looks familiar. His hair is light blond, almost silvery gold. His eyes are hazel-blue. They are so clear that it's as if I can look through his soul. For a moment, they attract me until the man smiles. I have to stay focused! I recover my balance and thank him with a slight bow. Without taking another look at him, I run to the open elevator. I have to know if Papa has let Gabriel go.

Before I can step foot, one of my father's men approaches me. "Good evening, Sasha. You have to come with us."

"No. Where is Papa?" I lose control of my composure and become scandalous in the lobby. "I need to know where he took Gabriel."

“We will take you to him,” the man answers.

I laugh my anger out and slap him hard. He wants to clap back at me but stops. I'm also his boss.Take me to Gabriel?Papa and his men still think I'm the sheltered kid they wrapped in fear in Russia. I know how to fight now. I have somebody to fight for.

“Where is Papa?” I ask again.

The man doesn't answer and signals some men behind me. I scream when the men hold me down and drag me to the back entrance. Some men came forward to assure the other guests that everything is alright.

“Leave her alone,” the man with the deep voice orders. The man turns around to object, but he quickly turns meek. “Why are you forcing a lady to go with you?”

“She’s Xerxes’s daughter, Dmitri.”

My heart stops upon hearing the name. The handsome man with a deep voice is Dmitri Fador. I look at him for a while; he looks familiar. I must have seen him at a party years ago – when I could still go to one.

“I know. So, get your hands off her,” Dmitri answers before giving me a cheeky wink. I frown at him and glare at the men who still hold me. Dmitri steps closer and takes my hands from the men. “Don’t make me say it twice.”

“Dmitri…”

“She is my woman. No man should hold her,” Dmitri declares.

I scoff at his words. What does he think of me? A canned sausage he picked from a pantry. I am not his woman. I will never be his woman! When he looks at me, I flash a fake smile and quickly push him out of the way.

Gabriel.I have no time to admire or be angry at another man. I have to save the one I love. But before I can leave the hotel, another batch of men catches me. This time, they succeeded in bringing me inside a limousine.

“I am not going home until I know where Gabriel is!” I say while running to the door of my father’s chartered jet.

His men stop me and bring me back to the front. My father sits calmly in his chair, sipping his coffee. I release my anger through a loud breath, gather my courage, and snap the coffee off his hand. The coffee spills on his lap, but Papa never shows any reaction of pain.

“Where is Gabriel? You promised, Papa!”

My mind snaps into blackness when a slap lands on my face. I look at my father, shocked that he can slap me. "Do you even know who Gabriel is? And what was his plan?"

"I don't care. Just tell me where Gabriel is!"

“Gabriel Petrovich. That's his real name! He's the son of Isaac Petrovich, the traitor. The man I killed!” Papa yells.

I drop on the seat near me, shocked. Papa is the man Gabriel told me about? My love for Gabriel fights the doubt rising after knowing the truth, but the latter gets stronger. He lied to me. I believed him when he said his name was not Ethan but Gabriel without a fuss. But he never told me his real family name. I assumed that it was still Mullin.

I close my eyes and remember the anger in Gabriel's eyes when we first met and when he drifted away in his thoughts. The other day! When he violently abused my mouth. Did he lose control then and see me as the daughter of the man who killed his family?
