“Paige,” I say impatiently. “Spill.”

“You said there might be a mole. Well, I have my suspicions about who it might be.”

Of all the things I expected her to say, that never crossed my mind. “Who?”

She takes a deep breath. Her shoulders sag when she exhales. “Cyrille.”

“Excuse me?”

“Oh God! No!” She shakes her head. “I didn’t mean Cyrille is the mole. I meant that the man she is involved with might be.”

I relax, but only slightly. “She’s involved with someone?”

“It’s new,” Paige says tentatively. “Again, I have no proof of anything. This is just a gut feeling, which is why I feel like a backstabbing little bitch for telling you about—”

“Paige.”

“Right.” She shakes her head. “I’m sorry.”

“Who is the man she’s involved with?”

Paige winces. “Pavel.”

I stand up. “Pavel? As in the Pavel who works for me?”

“Yes, which is exactly why Cyrille felt like she couldn’t tell you. She seemed to think that you would object to her dating someone so far below her.”

“And she was right. She’s the widow of a don,” I snap. “She deserves better than some petty fucking—Pavel, Jesus. I can’t believe this.”

“Like I said, it’s new. But something doesn’t feel right about it.”

I shake my head, trying to focus on what’s actually important. “What makes you think he could be the mole?”

“He seems intensely interested in the family. He asks her about me and you, about our relationships. Cy and I both just assumed he wanted to get to know her. But what if it’s more than that?”

I stroke my chin, deep in thought. “You might be onto something here, Paige.”

She grabs my arm. “But you have to be sure before you confront him, Misha. You can’t just accuse him without proof.”

“If he really is the mole, then he’s going to give himself away.” I turn towards the door.

“Where are you going?”

“To see if this lead pans out.”

“It’s the middle of the night!”

I spin back around and kiss her softly on the lips. I can’t wait to taste her when the threat of imminent retaliation isn’t hanging over our heads. How much sweeter will her kisses be then?

“I’ll be back. Lock the door behind me.”

MISHA

Pavel has been around long enough to know that Cyrille is off-limits. Maksim may be dead, but she is still a Bratva wife, and he is still nothing but a grunt in the army I command.

Or at least, he was.
