“I’m not sure why I wanted to come here,” I tell him honestly. “I guess I just wanted closure, to see her one last time. And the man she married.”

“You’re not gonna make a scene? You know I’ve got your back, but since Colt and Remy aren’t here, I feel like I need to tell you this is a bad idea just on principle.”

“No, I’m not going to make a scene. If all goes well, nobody will even notice us. Come on.”

“I don’t know, man,” RJ says, putting his palm on the center of my chest to stop me. “Having the ex-husband show up at the reception might cause a problem.”

He does have a point.

“Fine. I’ll stay here, and you can go inside.”

“Me?”

“Yeah, nobody will recognize you. Take your cut off, then walk through the gate, act normal, take a few photos, and then come back.”

“Ugh,” he whines.

“The sooner you go, the sooner we can leave.”

“That’s all you want me to do? Take a few photos?”

“Yes. Nobody will notice. Everyone else will be taking photos with their phones too.”

“Okay.”

“For real? You’re going to do it?”

“If you really want me to, then I guess so,” he says as he slips out of his cut and lays it on the seat of his bike.

“Thank you,” I tell him. He nods at me before he starts toward the gate. I half expect him to come back right away, but he slips right in and disappears into the crowd.

Now, there’s nothing to do but sit and wait.

And wait some more.

RJ’s gone for so long that I start to think he got caught. Isaac Perry may not go easy on him if he recognizes him. But they only met a handful of times…

I’m second-guessing everything, about to suck it up and go in guns blazing if necessary to find my brother when I hear his voice.

“Bear?” RJ whispers as he comes back through the dark parking lot.

“Over here!” I remind him with a wave of my arm.

“Hey, look what I found!” he says as he holds up a bottle of champagne in each hand.

“Jesus. Where the hell did you get those?”

“Some guy just gave them to me.”

“A guy? What guy?”

“I don’t know. We didn’t have a conversation.”

“Do you think they recognized you?”

“No. I don’t think so. I got in, then got out.” He looks over his shoulder toward the front gate.

“Did you get photos?”
