“Oh, yeah.”

“Let me see.”

He shoves one of the bottles toward me to free up his hand so he can pull his phone out of his pocket. “There.”

“Thanks,” I tell him as I take the device.

The first photo is…the wedding cake. The second is the band playing on stage.

I keep swiping through photo after photo of random things.

“RJ, did you take any photos of Laurel?” I ask.

When he doesn’t answer, I look up and find the big-ass bottle tipped up at his mouth, guzzling champagne.

“RJ!”

“What?” He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand.

“We have to drive home tonight!”

“Yeah? So?”

“So you just drank half a bottle of booze! You can’t drive after just getting out of a DWI, and you sure as shit aren’t riding bitch behind me.”

“Oh. Damn. Sorry.”

“It’s fine,” I say with a sigh since I didn’t explicitly tell himnotto drink. RJ’s the type of person who needs step-by-step directions on everything. “Why didn’t you get any photos of Laurel?”

My brother takes another swig before answering. “Ah, I couldn’t remember what she looks like.”

“She’s the bride! You know, the only one in a white dress?”

“Oh. Right. I didn’t see anyone in a white dress either.”

“Then go look again.”

“Fine. Here.” He shoves the bottle toward me, and yep, it’s light as a feather.

When he walks off, I take a swig from the other bottle since there’s nothing better to do. We’re going to have to call for a ride to get us both home.

Sending RJ back in when he got out unscathed the first time makes me nervous.

No guests come or go while I wait. Everyone must be already inside the gates, getting trashed.

Speaking of…one swig becomes two, then three. I’m halfway through the second bottle when RJ finally returns.

“Got ’em!” he says a little too loudly, phone in his hand raised in the air as he approaches.

“Okay, good. Now, keep it down. We don’t want to draw attention to ourselves.”

I trade him the bottle for the phone, and there she is.

She looks beautiful, even though I always liked her bright red hair better when it was down, natural, and not swept up tight. She’s smiling and looks happy as she dances with a man, one who looks old enough to be her father.

I zoom in on him and realize he’s in a black suit while everyone else is dressed fairly casually.

“Is this the groom?” I hold up the screen for RJ to see.
