She’s right, but god, why does she have to be the hottest woman I’ve seen naked? I wonder if she thinks about that moment too. I can’t erase the image of her soaking-wet body from my mind. I thought about it multiple times on this drive without knowing she was in the back. I get flashes of her erect, buttery tits slippery from the water and those fleshy hips. I should’ve grabbed them firmly and schooled her on how to properly close the bathroom door.

“You’re right, Sadie. Trust me, Iknowyou’re a grown woman.”

I didn’t mean it to sound like that, but it did.

“But Braxton is like my big brother, and you do still live with him. If there’s no harm in you being gone, then—”

“I do spend weekends in and out of the house. They never ask my whereabouts because…once again, I’m a grown woman who lives in Hillpike, Freddy. Hillpike! Where are there apartments in Hillpike? I have no choice but to live with my parents. But if my parents don’t see me all weekend, one of them will text me to make sure I’m alive.” She giddily shrugs.

I sigh and check the time. I have to take this into my own hands now.

“Sadie, this is what’s going to happen. I’m staying at a hotel. I’ve been at hotels for a while after my sublet’s been up. I’m not sure where I’m settling down, so there’s no time to commit to anything permanent. Anyhow…my point is I’ll book you a room when we get to the hotel. That won’t be a problem.”

“Oh, god, thank you, Freddy. Shit! A hotel downtown?”

I nod as her excitement rings loudly. That raspy quality in her voice sets me ablaze. It’s almost magic how fucking hot she sounds.

“Is it a hotel on Michigan Avenue?” she asks.

Ha, cute; she knows where Michigan Avenue is.

“I’ll take you back to Hillpike tomorrow. But you’re not leaving my sight tonight. You’re not street savvy enough to hang in Chicago, Sadie. Sorry to be a bummer, but you’ll have to accompany me to the wedding. I have a plus one, but you’ll have to pass as my date. A fake date, of course.

“We’ll be in Grant Park. That’s downtown. And yes, the hotel is on Michigan Avenue. Can’t get any more Chicago than that. I’ll be sure you have a great time, but you’ll have to be respectful.”

Sadie bites her lip and gives me a warm, dreamy smile. “This sounds really exciting. Right off Michigan Avenue, huh? I bet you had no idea I knew that.” Sadie jabs.

She is absolutely correct. Even though she’s naive, I can say she’s done her homework.

“This is remarkable! I don’t think I could’ve set up a better night in Chicago if I had planned one. I know I can’t afford a hotel anywhere downtown, that’s for sure.”

Her green eyes, full of wildfire, are like daggers to my heart. I really need to control myself tonight. I’m not sure what too much time with Sadie will bring me, but I’m willing to find out.

“And to be clear, Sadie, this is a role. Pure acting. My ex-wife will be there with her lover.”

“Oh. I see. Glad I don’t really remember seeing her.”

“Me too. Plus, you are an adult now. There’s no way she’ll remember you. But to be safe, you’ll need a new name.”

“It can’t be too different, or I won’t respond.” Sadie laughs and then says, “Sasha. I can be Sasha.”

“Ok. Sasha, it is. You’re not from Hillpike but definitely not from Chicago. Let’s say Champaign, the college town.”

“Um, but what if I meet someone who went to school down there and then….”

“Good point!”

I have faith she’s going to do a superb job, but first, I need to get her a good outfit.

“We’ll figure out your role for the wedding on the road. There are a few stores near the hotel. You can run in one and grab a pretty outfit for the wedding. I’m wearing light blue, so stick with pastels of some sort.”

There’s no way she’s rocking that cheap purple tank top and those tight little jean shorts to the wedding. My god, she sure knows how to get a man’s attention. I back up out of the rest stop and proceed to the expressway.

Once we make it to downtown Chicago, we head to Neiman Marcus. Sadie interlaces her arm in mine as we stroll throughout the store. Her balmy arms are surprisingly a turn-on. In actuality, having seen her completely naked, it’s beyond difficult not to be turned on by her.

“I need to start pretending I’m with you now,” she whispers in my ear. Her breath tickles my earlobe, and I release knotted-up desire through a sigh.

“That’s fine. Might as well get used to it.”
