THAT and my friends.

Damon:

Uh huh. Suuuuuure.

Carter:

Can you please just confirm you haven’t blown away? We heard it on the news.

Jasper is reading through the messages on his phone too, shaking his head. “This is news in California? We need to get a life, although twisters are creepy as hell…”

I shrug. “Carter probably saw it on Twitter. Maybe Kansas is trending.”

“Pfft. Doubtful,” Jasper says as he types back a reply that pops up on my phone a second later.

Jasper:

We’re alive. But storm chaser Bennet was trying to get himself killed running right into the center of the tornado after a damn cow and rooster.

Damon:

Hey, I’d die for a good cock. I get it.

A snort escapes me, but Jasper is not amused.

Me:

We’re fine. The tornado didn’t even head our way and it was just a little windy. Jasper is being dramatic.

Carter:

Windy? I’m looking at pics right now. That’s not just wind. There are pieces of houses all over that little town.

My gut sinks at that. Damn it. I was hoping since the farm was fine that there wouldn’t be any real damage. I’ve seen it a hundred times—a tornado passing through and totally missing part of the town and devastating another. I’ve seen it just blow a little shit around and not cause any damage. You just never really know what to expect out here.

“Hey. You okay?” Jasper asks me cautiously, his hand brushing against my chest tenderly.

I swallow hard, trying to ignore the worry settling in my belly. “Yeah. I should probably check on my mom.”

He raises his phone at me, showing a text from Bridgette. “She’s okay. Your family is all accounted for.”

I can’t help the small smile that falls onto my lips. Of course he already checked in. That’s very Jasper. He cares so very deeply but has a hell of a time showing it. Makes me like him even more.

“You want to go for a drive? Survey the damage with me?” I ask, reaching out and gently touching his cheek.

His eyelids flutter, and he nods his head.

“Sure, why the hell not? Nothing better to do.”

“Alright, let me change and we can go.”

We hop in the truck and drive down the dirt road toward town. Jasper is quiet, his eyes wide as he takes in the scenery. He’s probably looking for the inevitable damage around us. We probably won’t see much until we get closer to town, but then again, you just never know.

His hand snakes over the console and his palm turns up. I know what that means and goddamn, my heart is happy. I link my fingers with his, his hand giving me a light squeeze. I shift in my seat, feeling a little too giddy.

I mean, I know that this is serious, that we are out here looking at what Jasper would call a natural disaster, but I kind of want to fuck him again. Might have grabbed some lube and stuck it in my bag on the way out of the trailer too. If I get horny enough, I won’t be able to wait. I’ll just have to take him again, right here in this truck.
