Rebecca went through everything, and I could tell she cared about her job and ensured her patient was well taken care of. She made a good nurse, someone who could put the person aside and focus on their health. Assuming she even knew who he was and what he’d done since he’d used an alias.

Separating the person from their crimes hadn’t been anything I’d ever been able to do. Bad people deserved to be punished—end of story.

After another flirty encounter with Nate, Rebecca showed me a few other rooms I would be allowed to be in, which staff to avoid, and which ones would be helpful. The two hours went by fast, so by the time she walked me to the door, my brain was overloaded, and my feet hurt.

“Thanks for everything, Rebecca. Have a wonderful time on your trip!”

I waved goodbye, climbing down the stairs as I pulled out my phone to order another ride-share, but there weren’t any cars close by at this time of night. “Just great,” I muttered.

“You okay, miss?” a voice asked me from the shadows. I jumped, clutching my hand to my chest.

“Sorry. I didn’t see you there. I’m fine. Thank you.”

“Would you like a ride down to the guard station to wait?” he asked, motioning to the golf cart.

“Yes, that would be amazing. Thank you.” I practically ran to the golf cart, sinking on the leather cushion. “I’m Molly,” I said once I was seated.

“Nice to meet you, Molly. I’m Sean. You covering for the lovely Rebecca?”

“Yep. Seems like an interesting household. I’ve never worked anywhere with security before.”

“The Dukes take their privacy seriously. You won’t find a safer place here.”

“That’s good.” I smiled like that was what I was worried about. I pointed my camera around some more, capturing anything I might’ve missed the first time. The ride was much quicker than my trek, and I waved goodbye as the gate opened.

“Have a good night, Sean.”

“Everything go okay, Miss Molly?” Mark asked as I stepped through. A car sat off to the side, but I didn’t know who it was.

“Yep. I’m looking forward to my first solo day.” I smiled, wondering when he got off and if I could convince him to give me a lift into town.

“Good, good. I’ve already confirmed your ride, so I’ll see you tomorrow.” He nodded toward the car parked off to the side.

My ride? I glanced at the car closer, the driver’s window lowering with a familiar head popping out. Smiling, I waved bye to Mark as I walked slowly to the car and leaned in like I was checking. Porter beamed at me, making me laugh.

“Your ride’s here, Cutie-pie!”

I climbed into the back, grateful he’d come to get me. I guess there was a benefit to not doing this alone. But I wouldn’t tell Otto that just yet.

RAVEN

Once Porter had drivenpast the fence, I removed the wig and disassembled my disguise. The wig cap had been hot and itchy, making me wish this job was easier so I could wear my usual garb of black leather.

“Ahhh, that feels so much better,” I said, sighing in relief as I scratched my hair. Porter chuckled, his eyes moving to the rearview to watch me.

“How did it go?” he asked, his fingers tapping along to the song on the radio.

“Cover-wise, it went fine. I made contact with a few of the staff and learned the routine. As for security and window of opportunity, that will be tricky. It’s tighter than expected. They have a lot of protocols in place that will inhibit both of our missions.”

“I do like a challenge,” Porter chirped from the front.

Laughing, I finger-combed my hair and rubbed at my scalp as I let my hair down. The scrubs were itching, so I grabbed my change of clothes and took off the top. Porter gasped, and I jumped, looking up. I searched behind us and in front for what caused him to gasp. When I couldn’t find anything, my forehead creased.

“Are we being followed?” I asked, scooting forward so I was in between the front seats.

“Nope. You’re just trying to kill me.” Porter’s voice was strained, his hands tight on the wheel.
