“Here,” Phoenix said, placing a French fry before my lips. Taking a bite, I paid more attention as the guys ate, remembering I wasn’t alone in my room.

“So,” Otto said, clearing his throat, “what did you learn tonight?”

“Oh, lots, actually.” I wiped my hands and took a drink, replaying the information I’d learned. “It’s going to be tougher than we initially believed. There are guards inside and outside, cameras, and nosey staff. The wife checks on him periodically, and his medical condition has to be updated every two hours.”

“Shit. Is it worth trying to break in?” Otto asked, thinking through options in his head. It didn’t surprise me that he was good at planning things. He’d always been the one to strategize and teach me the best ways to find weaknesses.

“There were a lot of paintings and high-end items, but it would be hard to get them through the gate since they search vehicles upon entry and exit. If he has documents like you think, I might be able to smuggle those out without notice.”

“You’re not doing this alone,” Porter said, his carefree attitude gone. “We’ll find a way in. We always do.”

I lifted my hands, showing I wouldn’t fight him on it. “It was just a thought. There’s a way I think I could get Reuben in. The nurse spoke of a guard she had a thing with and how he was trying to get the time off. Maybe you could hack into their system and get Rueben’s name sent over to replace him? He was stationed inside the house, so that would be helpful.”

“That’s brilliant,” Phoenix said, kissing me on the cheek before he stood and dumped me into Rueben’s arms. He ran off without a backward glance like his feet were on fire. I frowned, not sure I should be offended or flattered.

“He’s going to hack. Probably the only thing that would tear him away from you. He gets into zones when he has a good idea,” Porter said, softening the dismissal. I could understand his behavior. I often did it myself when playing with my chemicals.

“Any other information?” Otto asked, reaching out to touch me now that I was beside him.

“We have the camera footage to go through, and I can check back to see if the internship has been approved for Porter. It might take a few days before it is because of the background checks.”

I didn’t add that I was still trying to figure out the best way to kill him without getting caught. Escaping would be difficult, along with the window of opportunity to make it look plausible. Good thing I thrived under pressure. The thought of it being difficult for once made my heart race excitedly.

“If there’s nothing else tonight, let’s watch a movie or something and relax. The next few days will be intense, so it’s our last opportunity to chill until the job is done,” Otto suggested.

“Sure. Just let me take a shower and change first. Need to wash the job off me.”

Rueben carried me into the shower, setting me on my feet and kissing my lips, my heart pounding as he stole my breath. He stepped out minutes later, smiling as I gawked at him.

“Oh, it’s so on like Donkey Kong!”

Now that Little Birdwas back with us, I felt calmer. I didn’t want to admit I’d been a worried mess the whole time she’d been gone. It had been hard to focus on anything, much less find a strategy that would keep us all safe and out of prison.

“Games or a movie?” I asked Porter after we cleared the kitchen.

“Hmm, maybe—”

“Oh, Porter,” Raven called from the bathroom, her head sticking out the door. “I’d like to continue our conversation from earlier about no one losing. Could you help me in the shower?” she asked innocently, batting her eyelashes.

Porter didn’t hesitate, rushing to the bathroom, a giggle escaping as the door shut behind them both. I didn’t know why I’d instituted a competition earlier. It had seemed fun then, but now that she’d thrown down the first gauntlet, I somewhat hated myself.

Raven was clever and planned to pick us all off one at a time. I couldn’t even blame Porter. If she’d called me in there, I would’ve gone running as well. Lucky bastard.

I glanced at Rueben, hoping he knew how to get through the rest of the night. He picked up the remote, indicating the TV, so I nodded, joining him on the couch.

“I’m an idiot, aren’t I?”

Reuben nodded, grunting in acknowledgment. Sighing, I rubbed my hand over my face as Porter’s moan traveled through the walls. My cock instantly hardened as I tried to picture what they were doing. Were they having sex? Was Little Bird on her knees? Were her legs wrapped around his face?

Groaning, I clenched my fists, the urge to rub myself strong. Rueben smirked, not even trying to hide that he was enjoying the free sound show. When the door opened a few minutes later, we both pretended to be watching the TV, but I’d guarantee neither of us could say what was on it. Porter walked out in a towel, a smug grin on his face.

“Looks like I’m out. But I can’t say it wasn’t worth it.”

I gritted my teeth but couldn’t find it in me to hate him. It would take a powerful man to deny Raven anything she wanted, and I doubt any of us would’ve resisted.
