“I know, and I already gave myself a stern talking to, and I was about to go in there and place my heart on a platter for her.”

Phoenix gave me a smug smile, motioning for me to continue. “Well, then, good. Carry on.”

Snorting, I shook my head and pulled Phoenix into a hug. “Thanks for caring about me, Nix.”

“Of course. You’re my brother.”

Releasing Phoenix, I felt more sure of myself, not pausing this time when I opened the door. “Alright, you win, Little Bird. I’m giving in.”

The mound of covers in the middle of the bed flew off as Raven jumped up, bouncing on the bed as she pumped her arms into the air.

“I win, I win, I win!”

It took me a moment to realize they were both fully clothed, Rueben sitting back with his legs crossed, a broad grin on his face. Blinking, the image didn’t change to one of sexual depravity. My mouth dropped open as it hit me. I’d been played and had fallen for it—hook, line, and sinker.

“Everyone else was in on it? They weren’t really giving in to you?” I asked.

Little Bird stopped jumping, placing her hands on her hips as she smirked at me. “A lady doesn’t kiss and tell. All that matters is I won. Now, come and snuggle with Ruebear and me.”

Shaking my head, a lightness crawled in as I walked toward the firecracker that had returned to me. I wanted to be mad at my brothers for plotting against me, but I couldn’t be. I probably would’ve done the same if it had been reversed. Little Bird was hard to say no to, and I’d been an idiot to make our connection into a game. She was changing us all in so many ways. Softening our sharp edges, brightening our dark souls, and filling our lives with more than the pursuit of justice.

Little Bird had resuscitated us, reminding our group how to breathe again.

Climbing onto the bed, I pulled her into my arms, clinging to the girl I loved. The feelings I had as a child were tenfold now, my heart beating for her.

“I love you, Little Bird. That might be too soon to say, but I don’t care. I spent too many years missing you, wishing I could’ve done things differently, but I didn’t have the means to do so. Now that you’re here, I don’t want to waste time pretending you’re not the air I breathe.”

She sucked in a breath, her eyes shiny with tears. I took the opportunity to kiss her, to truly feel her lips on mine. To explore her mouth with my tongue and elicit a response to the feelings coursing through me.

Little Bird melted in my arms, her body melding into mine as I held her. Moving back, I placed her against the mattress, not breaking the kiss. Never before had a kiss felt so powerful. It was the life force connecting our two souls, entwining them together for eternity.

My hands caressed her body, warring with pulling her closer or softly touching her all over. It felt like we kissed for hours, months, years, our hearts beating as one as our lips and tongues tangled together. It was both a frenzy and a tranquil meeting as we chased the ultimate high together.

When I couldn’t hold off any longer, I pulled back, gasping for air. Raven’s hair was a mess, my fingers having run through it. Her cheeks were flushed, her lips puffy, and her eyes dilated so big I could barely see the blue color. Her chest heaved, her breasts moving with the action, capturing my attention. Her fingers moved to the hem of my shirt, moving over my stomach as she pushed it up.

My abs flexed with the motion, her touch sending tingles all over me. When she had it halfway, I raised it and tossed it to the floor. Taking her shirt, I lifted it, staring at her chest momentarily as I committed every detail to memory.

“You’re so gorgeous, Little Bird.” My voice was awed, amazed I got to hold and touch this beautiful woman.

“So are you, Otto. Is it weird I want to lick all over your chest?” Chuckling, I shook my head.

“Not at all. It’s hot. I love that you say whatever you’re thinking. Don’t ever hold back, Raven.”

Descending on her, my hands roamed her body as I explored every inch of her. When her hands did the same, I sucked in a breath, fighting back the urge to explode in my pants. Somehow, the rest of our clothing got removed and tossed to the floor. As we rolled around, laughing at one another, I realized that Rueben had left the room, giving me this moment.

I hadn’t mind sharing it with him. We shared everything. But I appreciated the gesture. This memory right here belonged to Little Bird and me only.

“I don’t think I’m good at sex, Otto, but I want to try with you if you do.”

I blinked, not understanding what she was saying. “There’s no way you’re bad at sex, Little Bird.”

She shrugged, her eyes dropping. “I hope not. I don’t want to be. I think I’ve figured something out about myself, but just in case it’s not true, I wanted you to be warned.”

“Are you sure you want to?” I asked, leaning over her, our naked bodies pressed together.

“Yes. I want everything with you, Otto. I love you, too.”

Sweeter words had never been uttered, so I pressed a kiss to her lips, holding us there. “You’ve just given me the best gift, Little Bird. I’ll cherish it forever.”
