She was a strong little thing, despite her appearance. That was good.

“Barclay,” I called out, and the butler appeared almost immediately. “Get the contract for the breeding agreement.”

Belle grimaced at the word breeding, and I chuckled darkly.

While waiting for Barclay to return to the dining room with the papers, I moved from my seat to sit in a chair beside Belle. She was nervous, nibbling on her lower lip constantly.

I scrunched my nose as I settled into the seat beside her, and she looked at me curiously.

“You smell, do you know that? I haven’t smelled anything this bad in years.”

Belle muttered under her breath as her cheeks turned pink, and I distinctly heard her say the word, “asshole.”

“Doesn’t mean I’m wrong,” I pointed out.

Belle didn’t say anything else, and we sat in silence until she reached for a second sandwich. I looked at her closely as she started to eat.

“You don’t have any diseases, do you?” I asked.

Anger flared in her eyes. “Do you?” she snapped.

“Of course not.”

“What’s that supposed to mean? That I look like I might have some?”

I tilted my head and looked at her curiously. “Do you?”

“You know I’m doing you a favor, right?”

“I’m paying you for a job.”

Barclay came back with a small black pouch in one hand and the contract in the other. I didn’t hesitate to sign it. I’d already read the whole thing.

Belle scanned it, and I couldn’t help shaking my head at her. She might be young, but she should have known to always thoroughly read anything before you sign it. Every word, every line.

But it wasn’t my problem if she didn’t.

When she was ready to sign, I pulled out a sterile needle. Taking her hand, I pricked her finger before she even realized what I was doing.

“Ow! What the hell?”

“It’s your signature,” I said, pressing her finger onto the paper, leaving a blood splotch behind. “It’s binding.”

Belle swallowed hard as she stared at her blood on the paper. “What happens if the contract is broken?”

I stood and snatched the contract from her dirty little hands. “You don’t want to know.”

While I taught people hard lessons when they broke agreements with me, I had no intention of hurting this woman, even though her odor reminded me of a wet dog.

“Barclay, give Belle a tour of the castle and—”

“I don’t really need a tour,” Belle interrupted. “I’ve been wandering the castle for three days now.”

I ignored her interjection.

“Set her up in the south wing,” I continued.

I didn’t want anyone in the north wing, and I didn’t want her near where I slept. I didn’t want to be tempted by her. I didn’t even want to run into the beauty. When the time came to fuck, I’d do it, but I didn’t need to see her before then.
