“Maybe we can make a deal?” I suggested. “How about I stay and work in the castle for shelter and money? Just for a little while.”

I could tell he wasn’t going to agree to it before he even spoke. The incredulous look in his eyes was a dead giveaway. But before he could shoot me down, another butler walked into the room. Sebastian turned to the man with a glower that many would cower from, but the butler didn’t even react to it.

“I have a message from Maxwell,” the butler said. He hesitated, shooting a furtive glance my way, but Sebastian gestured for him to continue. “Maxwell said they removed the online ads from all platforms for violating their terms and conditions.”

“Fuck,” Sebastian mumbled under his breath, brushing his hair back in the same agitated gesture as before. “Back to square one.”

The butler didn’t seem to have a response to that, so he turned on his heel and left the room. Tension radiated from Sebastian as he stabbed something on his plate. I wanted to ask what was wrong, but I was no fool. He was already upset about my presence here, and prying into his personal affairs would make it worse.

So, I focused on my sandwich, wondering if it really would be my last meal here. Several minutes passed in silence until Sebastian leaned back in his chair and shot me a determined look.

“It turns out that Idohave a task for you to fulfill.”

I stopped eating. There was something about the look in his eyes that sent a tremor down my spine.

“What is it?” There was no hiding how nervous I was.

“I need you to have my child.”

I blinked. “You… what?”

Sebastian smirked.

“An heir, by the end of the year. Obviously, I need a woman to pull it off. Someone that will have the child, and leave afterwards with her money.”

Money? He wants me to get pregnant for money?

Something felt so wrong about that. But I couldn’t help asking, “How much?”

“Two hundred and fifty grand.”

I stopped breathing.

Chapter6

Sebastian

Ihad no intention of offering thisjobto Belle, but my options were limited, and time was short. She was here and clearly desperate.

Was it perfect?

No, not at all.

But I didn’t care at this point. I guessed I was desperate, too.

As much as it pained me, I couldn’t deny that Belle had an inexplicable hold on me. But that didn’t mean I was foolish enough to catch feelings—I knew exactly what I wanted from her. The sex would be great, and I’d be free of any attachment once the baby was born. It was a win-win scenario I had convinced myself of.

Despite my determination to remain unattached, Belle’s mere presence was enough to stir up my emotions. Those big brown eyes of hers held a spark that had me going crazy, but I refused to let my guard down. This was strictly business.

As she sat there, slack-jawed and surprised at my proposal, I finally started to eat my lunch. I gave her time to process it all, but deep down, I already knew she had no other choice. She had nowhere else to go, and I could tell she was desperate.

It was a terrible thing to do, but I wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip away. Belle was at my mercy, and I was ruthless enough to use that to my advantage. At the same time, I was offering her enough money to turn her life around, so it wasn’t like she wasn’t getting something out of it herself.

“I guess I can do that.” She said the words with so much hesitation that I couldn’t help smirking.

“Are you sure about that?”

She cleared her throat and nodded. “Yes. Yes, I’ll do it.”
