“What did she do, Hypnos? Refuse to go out with you?” Dammit, Ayres, doesn’t know how to keep his mouth shut.

Hypnos bares his teeth at us and rams into the girl. “No.” He pulls back and rams back in, hard. So hard, she cries out over Haydes’s cock. “Her Momma is the assistant district attorney and has been spying on us. This little princess lives on the east side in an enormous mansion. She’s been slumming it because she likes coke a little too much.”

Hypnos thrusts into the girl with each word he speaks. “So what? You aren’t the dealer.” Ayres says he can’t believe Hypnos would even consider being the head honcho of a drug operation.

“Besides, father…” I clamp my hand over Ayres’s mouth.

Whispering in his ear, I try to get my point across quickly. “Shut up. The one thing you don't know is that father always has under dealings and secrets. Just shut up.”

Hypnos looks at us and smirks. “You really thought father would let me leave? To stay away for all these years getting an education?”

His laughter is bitter as he mocks me cynically. Father promised me he would leave Hypnos alone to better himself. Of course, he lied. I should have known. Hell, how do I make this up to Hypnos? I’m not sure an apology is going to cut it. Shit, I can’t apologize for what I didn’t do.

Agitated, I run a hand through my hair as Ayres walks a little closer to the bed. “Hurry the hell up. We have to get back.”

“Don’t rush us. Join in.” Haydes smiles and I want to gouge his eyes out. He’s always seemed a bit eviler than the rest of us. Not that we are saints. Far from it.

Pulling Ayres back, I sigh. “Come on, Ayres, let them finish.” We walk into the living room and the music deafens us. Hell, I could be getting my dick wet, but I’m too angry at father and how he’s screwed us once again.

It doesn’t take long for both Hypnos and Haydes to come out. Blood drips from Hypnos’s knife. Failure runs through me as I think about how my once soft and nerdy brother has drowned within father’s grasp.

Haydes comes over to Ayres and sits down. They talk amongst themselves, and I walk over to Hypnos. I take the knife from him and go check on the girl. She’s dead, but the message is clear. Hypnos carvedfuck youinto her chest. Closing the door, I make my way back over to Hypnos and take him into the kitchen.

As I clean the knife, Hypnos is staring at the ground. “Her mother made a deal with her and the DA that if she turned me in, her sentence would be shortened to probation. The thing is, she came back to me and told me the stupid plan. I already knew it. I have someone in the court system looking out for me.”

Once the knife is cleaned, I put it on the counter. I start working on cleaning up Hypnos. “Well, it doesn't matter now, brother. She’s dead.”

Hypnos sighs and I can see he doesn’t want to return home. He doesn’t have a choice. “Forget about it, brother. Ayres and Haydes is working on getting this place to burn to the ground.”

“But…”

I pull him to me and hold him close so that only he can hear me. “Don’t. You know you don’t have a fucking say whether you stay or not. Go pack what you need and let’s get the fuck out of here.”

His shoulders lower in defeat but he nods and leaves me to stand here, looking at the dump. My father has a lot of shit to answer but I know he will never do it. Ten minutes later we are in the car, driving away from the building as it explodes.

Chapter Four

Kronos: Age Twenty-Four

Threefuckingyearstryingto claw my way out of the night shift and shitty assignments to only climb into a cluster fuck of heated arguments and rage. I should have known I would never be in my father's good graces and honestly that's not why I stuck around. If my brothers weren't here, I'd have bailed ages ago. Too bad killing is in my blood, and I like it. So much so that I'm now the one my father calls when he needs to have someone tortured. The things I've done, well, let's just say hell has become my new home—even if I'm cold as ice on the inside. Almost dead to any kind of feelings or emotions. Except for my brothers. That's why I'm here now with Ayres, Hypnos, and Haydes doing this meaningless bullshit.

The heat is killing me. My father, the prick that he is, has us outside digging up dirt to teach us a fucking lesson. The lesson?Do as you're told and don’t talk back. I’m tired of his fucking games. It’s always the same fucking thing. He barks an order, and we fucking obey. That’s what we’ve been taught since we were kids. We wouldn’t be in this mess if it weren’t for Haydes. He’s our friend, but lately, he’s been getting on my nerves. So much so that I think I’m going to have to kill him. Hypnos refuses to hear of it. So does Ayres. Why? Fuck if I know. Haydes is a damn time bomb waiting to explode.

After we get through digging these fucking holes, we are supposed to rig dock twenty-nine to explode. I don’t know why, and I didn’t ask, but Haydes justhadto know. So, he asked. Allowing him to talk was a mistake‌. But, if I’m being honest, I was curious about why we would even mess with Wolfe Territory.

Eventually, night falls and we move on to the mission. We have a plan, and everything goes off without a hitch the first hour.

“Something's wrong. Why isn’t Haydes radioing in?” I growl in frustration at Hypnos.

“Patience, Kronos. We must calm down and wait.” Fuck Hypnos and his damn calm fucking patience. He’s always telling me I’m impatient and that I need to learn to hold the line. Fuck that shit. Things go awry when I’m not in control of everything. I tap my fingers along my knee as I count the steps we have to take tonight.

Five minutes have passed when Haydes comes running out of the building.

“We are clear. The bomb will go off any moment.” He jumps into the backseat of Hypnos’s SUV. “Ayres got a call and left on the far side.”

Fuck, that’s something Ayres would do. It still pisses me off he doesn't follow instructions like I harp about every damn time we do a mission like this. When we don't do as planned, we get into trouble. I'm tired of the damn beatings.

“Dammit, Haydes, why didn’t you stop him? He was your responsibility while you two were in the warehouse.” I turn toward him, and he looks annoyed.
