Boston nodded.

Apollo blew out more smoke and said, “Here’s the deal. She comes back to work here. As I just said, my uncle…I can’t have her in my house. The sophomores actually have a clean house, a good system, and I wouldn’t subject her to the freshmen. No offense.”

He looked at the freshmen reps who never said a damn thing in these meetings because they were nobodies. Potter shook his head. “None taken.”

I did sort of smile then.

Apollo said, “You’re paying them to do a job, and while it has the clauses in it, you better fucking read their contracts and what they agree to because she was within her rights and her father, a state senator, will send people over here and break your fucking legs if he finds out you tried to fuck his daughter with the tail end of a boa constrictor?” He looked around. “Not an approved pet either, by the way, so that better be gone already.”

I winced, and I was not the only one. What the hell? Dougie was way more fucked up than I thought he was. I chalked it up to one too many concussions and the loss of his girlfriend since he dumped her after tricking her out that night.

“Damn.” Dane shook his head. “You need help.”

“Fuck you.” Dougie was too prideful and stupid to just shut up.

“About that.” Apollo winked at Dougie. “I did sort of promise her that…you know. Turn about being fair play and all.”

I wanted out of this room and right fucking now. Dane was reading my mind. He looked at the window behind the freshmen and indicated they should move.

Apollo laughed and said, “You aren’t going anywhere.”

“I can’t be here for any more of this shit, man.” I held up my hands. This was too much, and I didn’t even know what it was.

“She’s not going to fuck him with a snake. Relax.” He blew out another puff of smoke and then, very much like the mafia don swagger he carried, said casually, “But she is going to fuck him.”

Footsteps thundered on the stairs, and Apollo said, “And you motherfuckers need to back up and give them space. This is a lesson. Know who the fuck you’re fucking with.”

We were Dougie’s teammates, sure, but we both hated him. Not that I wanted to see what was about to happen, but the guy kept pushing it with this stuff. Since his girlfriend and that incident…everyone knew they were out of control over here in this house. I had a feeling it was about to become a great place to work and not get fucked for the two, well, three remaining bunnies.

Apollo seemed really uninterested in the fate of the man being held down over the same pool table he had essentially offered his ex upon. I turned my back. Dane did, too. The freshmen were already facing the window. A presence moved next to me and said as if the quarterback was not taking a dildo up the ass behind us, “I don’t want to move into a filthy, tainted fucking house next year. Maybe we will just keep our houses and rotate the freshmen as people graduate?”

I nodded, cleared my throat. “Yeah, that makes sense. Some of us would rather stay during the summer anyway.”

Then he said, “Like Harper Harrington. She’s one of yours, right?”

Dane said, “She is.”

I had turned my head to look at Apollo. What the hell was happening right now?

He smiled and said, “I know you have history. You need me to handle that—”

“I got it.” I meant that, and he nodded.

We knew the situation happening behind us was over when the much older, gun-toting guys that had come down those stairs with Manuella and her dildo could be heard leaving. Dougie had talked back during the first part, and then at some point, it was tough to know if he was giving in to it to spite her, because he actually enjoyed it, or…what. All I knew for sure was it was just another in a long line of events that I should never have been privy to.

I didn’t look at him. No one did. Maybe Boston? I just got out of there as quickly as possible. Dane next to me, he said, “This is why we read every fucking profile.”

“I’m not even sure that guy can read.” I was exhausted. Dane snickered, then he laughed. He shoved my shoulder and I cracked a smile. We laughed as we entered the house, and the object of our concern was waiting for us.

She blinked at me, then indicated the table with an acoustic guitar and next to it a kit of some sort. She said, “Your fiancé sent these.”

I felt the word like a kick in the nuts. Dane winced out loud and said, “Damn.” Then he made an explosion noise and moved to Harpy, put his arm around her, and said, “Come on. Stay with Daddy tonight.”

She slid next to him and didn’t look back. I puffed out a breath and then moved to pick up my gifts to take back to my room.
