We just have to deal.

NINETEEN

CALEB

“You’re seriously going to give a tattoo while we’re on the move?” I ask incredulously. “And you’re going togeta tattoo while we’re on the road?”

“Yup,” Julian says with a smile. He’s setting up his tattoo gun, and I shake my head.

“It seems like a good idea to me,” Jeanette replies in answer to the question I posed to her. “You only live once, right?”

“You’re crazy,” I say. “I wouldn’t trust this idiot to give me a tattoo if we were sitting still, let alone heading down the highway at the speed we are.”

“If it gets fucked up, that adds character,” Julian announces with a grin. “This is important.”

“What’re you even doing?” Terry asks. He’s sitting on the couch watching Julian and Jeanette prepare for the tattoo, his laptop open.

“I’m giving Jeanette a tattoo, as if that wasn’t altogether obvious,” Julian tells him. “Are you two blind? Can’t you see what I’m doing?”

“I mean what kind of tattoo are you giving her, dipshit,” Terry replies as he rolls his eyes. “I can see that you have your shit out, I’m wondering what design she’s trusting you to bestow upon her.”

“Simple,” Julian announces. “After the conversation we had last night, I think it’s safe to say it’s time we mark what’s ours.”

“Meaning?” I ask.

“Meaning I’m putting our name on her ass,” he says simply, as though it’s the most ordinary thing in the world.

“Really?” Terry asks. “Whose idea was this?”

“Mine,” Julian announces, just as simply as before. “When we were talking last night, she said she’s worried we’re going to replace her, and I figure what better way to show her there’s no way in hell she’s getting replaced than by marking her permanently.”

“And what do you have to say about this?” I ask Jeanette. “You want to walk around with our name on your ass?”

“Of course. Why wouldn’t I?” she asks. “I meant it when I said I’m scared of losing you guys, and I think Julian has a point here, what better way to show the entire world I belong to you than to have your name on me? Anyone who sees my ass is going to see that I’ve already been marked by another.”

“I don’t think anyone else should be seeing your ass,” I say. “If that’s our ass, then there’s no reason why anyone else should see it.”

“There’s always bikini season,” Terry chimes in. “I know with an ass like yours, you don’t wear that full coverage shit, do you?”

“I won’t if you don’t want me to,” she says with a smirk. “I can’t say I’ve been in a bikini all that much over the past few years. I work too much to have the time to lounge around in a bikini.”

“Technically you work all the time now, and you’re still going to have time to be in a bikini,” Julian says. “We might make a rule you can’t ever be out of a bikini as long as you’re around us.”

Jeanette laughs.

“Because that’s so practical when I’m taking care of a baby. And he’s only getting older. I don’t want to chase around a wild toddler wearing nothing but a bikini.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” Terry asks. “It could be fun to see how much you can accomplish in a bikini without it falling off or revealing more than you’re trying to.”

“That goes back to you not wanting me to show off my ass to the world, doesn’t it?” Jeanette asks.

“At least now if someone does see it, they’ll know who you belong to,” I say.

“That’s fair,” she replies. She lies down over the table that’s right next to the bunk bed, and Julian goes to work on her. I don’t know why they thought it would be a good idea to give or get a tattoo in a moving vehicle, but I’m not going to argue.

I like the idea of her having our name on her ass. It shows the world who she belongs to, and I think that’s a good thing. Especially with the drama that appears to be in the works with Clarissa.

When Julian is done, he slaps her ass and she winces.
