“And if she did?” I arch an eyebrow.

Brady raises both hands. “I wouldn’t say a word. As far as I’m concerned, you’re consenting adults. That said, it would probably go over better with Miles if you told him before anything happened between you guys.”

I stare at him for a beat, then glance down the table at Twyla, who catches my eye before I look back at Brady. “It hasn’t gotten that far.”

He claps me on the shoulder. “Well, just don’t hurt her. I think that’s ultimately what would send Miles over the edge.”

“Believe me, I have no intention of doing that.”

He nods and releases my shoulder.

For the rest of the meal, I do my best to not glance in Twyla’s direction. Clearly I’m more obvious than I thought if Brady’s noticed my interest.

That becomes impossible at the end of dinner when Twyla calls down the table, “Chase, would you mind if I caught a ride home with you to save Miles the trip?”

Everyone’s head turns toward me, and I do my best to project a calm, unruffled effect. “Yeah, no problem.”

“Thanks, man,” Miles says.

Once again, I feel like an ass. He thinks I’m doing it out of the goodness of my heart when really I’m going to be pawing at his sister the minute I’m alone with her.

With my lips pressed together, I nod.

We all finish up and stand in front of the restaurant, saying our goodbyes. Brady gives me a look I can’t interpret before he and Violet head off toward their vehicle.

“Thanks for the hookup to the game today,” Twyla says to Miles and gives him a hug.

“Always.” He pulls away but continues to hold her by the shoulders. “You really are okay? I know yesterday had to be tough.”

“I’m fine. Stop worrying about me.” She rolls her eyes.

“It’s my job as your big brother,” he says.

“Well, take a day off once in a while, would you?” She chuckles.

Miles lets his hands drop, then looks at me. “Thanks for letting my sister ride with you. Drive safe, yeah?”

“Oh my god, stop!” Twyla throws her hands up in exasperation. “Chase can get me home safely.” She shakes her head at her brother, who grins at me.

He obviously added that last bit just to annoy her.

“All right, let’s get going before you want to punch him,” I say.

“Seriously.” She shakes her head as she walks beside me to my truck.

Miles heads the other way in the parking lot.

Though the urge to touch her, even just hold her hand, is strong once we’re both in my truck, I refrain. There’s still a chance someone from the team could see us. Instead, I start the truck and drive to our condo building. The drive takes about twenty minutes with traffic, and we don’t talk about much of any consequence on the way.

The tension in the cab is thick and feels as if it increases with every yard we draw closer to our building. I wonder if she’s like me and thinking about what might happen when we get inside one of our places. The cab is filled with the cucumber scent of her shampoo, and I’m aware of every small movement she makes in the seat next to me.

As we approach the condo, I click the button on my visor to open the garage door to the underground parking, then drive down the ramp and into my designated parking spot.

I turn off the engine and turn to look at Twyla. “Here we are.”

“Here we are,” she mimics, and our gazes lock and hold.

And then we’re both diving forward to meet the other in the middle. I grip the back of her head as my tongue plunges into her mouth. She meets me stroke for stroke, and a frisson of electricity heads straight to my dick that’s straining the confines of my suit pants.
