His hands come to my face, and he bends to kiss me. When our tongues meet, it’s as if all of the tension from the past weeks slides out of me, down through my toes and into a puddle on the floor.

He pulls away and rests his forehead on mine. “Does that mean you’ll stay?”

I nod slowly. “Of course I’ll stay.”

Chase kisses me again, and when he pulls away, he winks at me. “It’s the muscles, isn’t it?”

We both dissolve into a fit of laughter while the crowd in the stadium goes wild and the people around us offer us their good wishes.

After a minute or two, Jasper approaches and says to us, “Congratulations, you two. Well done, Chase.”

Chase shakes his hand. “Thanks, Jasper.”

“Now, get out there and get us a win.” He nods toward the field.

“Will do.” Chase turns to me. “I’ll see you downstairs after the game.”

“Try and stop me.” I smile as he leans in to give me a chaste kiss.

I head back to where I was standing when he showed up, and I smile to myself.

I’d thought it was the start of a whole new life when I arrived here three months ago, but today is the real start to my whole new life.

Epilogue

Twyla

I’m at the kitchen sink, rinsing out the glass I used for orange juice when a large set of hands settles on my hips. Chase leans down and kisses my neck and a little moan escapes me.

“Good morning,” he says against my skin.

“Morning.”

“How’d you sleep?” he asks before kissing my temple.

“Hmm, not well. I couldn’t keep my hands off my boyfriend all night, so there wasn’t much sleep to be had.”

He chuckles in my ear. “Must be the muscles that make him so irresistible.”

“Always blame the muscles,” I say in a breathy voice when he steps into me so that his body is plastered against mine.

“Knock it off, you two.” Miles steps into the kitchen and heads to the fridge for one of his green drinks.

Chase laughs and steps back from me, adjusting himself.

We’re in Chicago, visiting my brother, although Miles decided to keep his place in California so that he could spend time there during the off-season and be around me and his friends from his old team. Training camp starts next week, so Miles has already returned to his rental condo in Chicago, and we decided to come have a quick visit here before Chase is to report to the Kingsmen training camp.

I ended up getting a teaching job at the same school I was helping out at, so I’m off on summer break, which works out well.

This is our second time visiting my brother in Chicago and we’re here to see him, yes, but I also have two other reasons to be here that Miles doesn’t know about yet. One of which I’m afraid to tell him.

Miles takes his disgusting-looking green drink from the fridge and swallows it, making my stomach turn.

“I don’t know how you drink that stuff.” A full-body shiver works its way through me.

“I don’t know how you eat all the processed crap you put in your body,” he says back.

I stick my tongue out at him like an adolescent.
