“All right, children, settle down,” Chase says.

“I love your dad voice,” I say to my boyfriend, and we share a knowing smile.

“If you tell me you call him daddy in the sack, I might puke,” Miles says.

“Not in the bedroom, but you’re giving me ideas…” I rest my index finger on my chin and look at the ceiling, then break into a laugh.

“Speaking of…” Chase gives me a look that says, “get on with it.”

We’ve been here for two days and still haven’t told my brother the news. Either one. I’ve chickened out every time, but Chase is clearly done giving me a free pass.

“What?” Miles looks between the two of us.

“Why don’t you sit down?” I gesture to the large island in the middle of the kitchen.

Miles has a wary look on his face as he sits. “Okay, what’s going on?”

Chase stands behind me, resting his chin on my head, his hands on my waist.

“We have some news.”

Miles’s gaze dips down to my bare left hand.

I continue, “We wanted you to be the first to know since you were so out of the loop on the first bit of news we had when we got together.”

Miles’s eyes narrow. He’s fine with Chase and I being a couple now, but he’s still a little bitter about how he found out.

“Chase and I are expecting a baby. I’m pregnant.”

Chase’s hand roams from my waist to my belly and he kisses the top of my head.

Miles stares at us in shock for a moment, and my breath catches. Will he not be happy about this news?

Then he snaps out of it, pushes out of his seat, and walks around the island, arms outstretched. “Congratulations! Oh my god, I’m going to be an uncle.”

His smile is wide as he pulls me into a hug, squeezing tightly.

“Careful there, man,” Chase grumbles behind me.

Chase has been even more protective than normal since he found out I was pregnant. Not in an overbearing way, in a sweet, loving way. He won’t let me carry anything that could be considered remotely heavy, and he won’t let me clean the kitty litter because he read somewhere that there’s a small chance it could make me or the baby sick, and he’s constantly massaging my feet even though I just passed over the twelve-week mark.

I was only nervous to tell Chase I thought I might be pregnant for about the length of a heartbeat. Once I wrapped my own head around the idea, I wasn’t worried about what he would think—I knew he’d stick by me and be down for whatever the future had in store for us.

We took the test together, and when he saw the two lines appear, I saw a mix of awe and elation on his face.

Miles pulls away from me, then he and Chase hug, but not in that bro way guys do. A real honest-to-goodness hug. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to snap a picture and send it to all the girls. It’s not every day you see two hulking football players let their guard down and embrace.

“I wasn’t sure how you’d react,” I say once he and Chase separate.

“Really?” Miles’s forehead wrinkles. “Of course I’m happy for you. And if you thought I was an overprotective brother, you just wait and see what I’m like as an uncle.” He winks and laughs.

I thumb at Chase beside me. “I think you’ll have to compete with this one for the designation of most protective.”

Chase grumbles something I can’t hear, but I’m only teasing. I can’t wait to see his protective instincts encompass our child.

“So does this mean a wedding is coming in the next few months?” Miles asks.

I shake my head. “We talked about it, but we decided we’d rather wait until we’re settled as a family after the baby has arrived. We’re not in any rush.”
