There were no windows this far back, no light. She shivered at the cooler temperature and I clutched her tighter, not able to stop the kiss I pressed to her lips. I should have given her my jacket. When she returned the kiss with startling force, hope bloomed through me. We’d been interrupted and she stillwantedme. She hadn’t seen sense. We reached the back of the room and I pressed her into the wall, my cheek to hers. We were breathing so loudly I almost couldn’t make out my brother’s words.“You’re certain she came this way?”

“Yes, she came to collect another forty-seven.” Heather.Hell, it was a real family affair.

“Mal…” April’s near-silent plea eclipsed everything else. She squirmed in my arms, hips pressing and seeking against mine. I knew what she needed.

“Can you keep quiet?” I husked.Bloody hell. What was I saying?

She bit her lip, nodding frantically. My hand came to cover her mouth and her answering moan was powerful, her head falling back against the wall. I was doing this. This was happening. My hand fumbled beneath her skirts until I found her centre. She was hot, bare, soaked. I stroked once with a single finger and she bucked in my arms, her nails digging into my shoulders. I stroked her again, slower, pausing to make a circle over her clit. Her eyes flew wide and her lips opened around my palm covering her mouth, teeth sinking into my skin with a sharp pinch that nearly buckled my knees.“That’s it… bite me. I want you to leave a mark.” I panted, pushing into her then, one finger and then two, setting a steady rhythm.“Fuck, baby, you’re perfect. Feel how well you take my fingers. I need to watch you take my cock next.” Our eyes were locked, foreheads almost touching.

A few more passes was all it took before she was tightening around my fingers. She was the one about to come but I was the one out of my mind. Talking. Saying things I’d never usually say. I didn’t even know if I was being quiet… didn’t care. Her hips rolled, trying to take more of me. Mine rolled back, the rock-hard length beneath my kilt hitting her thigh. I heard Callum’s heavy tread angle down a stall close to us. Was I being loud on purpose? Was my hand loosening over her mouth? I had no idea.

Needing to taste her again, my mouth dove into the crook of her neck, laving at her pounding pulse until her head shot back. Her release was silent, long and searingly hot as she convulsed in my arms. I came in my boxers seconds later with a low groan, cock still pressed against her. Then we stared at each other, chests rattling. The entire exchange couldn’t have been more than a minute, but I felt utterly changed.

“Here it is.” Heather’s high voice cut through the fog, followed by the clank of crates moving.“Perhaps she went up to the house to check on Dudley. Do you think I should look for her?”

I turned just enough to catch sight of them. Heather held a few bottles in her arms facing the door. But Callum, he was looking at the ground—at April’s shoes. His head snapped up, staring right at me. Notat me, the corner I’d tucked us into was too dark. And yet, I pressed closer to April, my free arm caging around her in a bid to cover as much of her as possible.

“I’m sure she’ll be back,” Callum eventually said, steering Heather down the aisle and out the door. It clacked closed, and I released April’s mouth but kept her hiked against the wall. Neither of us said a word. It was too dark to fully make out her expression, so when she pressed lightly against my chest, I set her down at once. Her bare feet met the grubby earth and I was about to lift her again when she stumbled back, her expression slackening with horror.

“Princess,” I murmured, reaching for her. But she was already hurrying toward the cask, gathering up her shoes.

“I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have …I’m sorry I made you do that with them there.”

Was she serious?“You didn’tmakeme do anything. I was fully onboard with every single second of that.” I opened my mouth to admit that I felt more alive in those five minutes than I had in my entire life, but I shoved the words down deep before I terrified her.

She nodded jerkily and I could tell she wanted to say more, but her glance flicked back in the direction of the party.“I should get back. I can’t believe I left for this long, tonight is too important.”

This is important.“We should talk about this.” Was she upset because Callum might have seen us? Or at the way I spoke to her?

“We will, I want to. I’m so sorry to ask this… but can we do it later?” She turned for the door, smoothing her skirt and tangled curls, clutching up the strewn bottle of forty-seven at the last moment.

I followed.“When later?” I demanded.

“After the tasting is done.” She rose onto her toes, pressing a hasty kiss to the corner of my lip.

The kiss eased my panic slightly, but the tinge of worry was too sharp to ignore.“Come by the cottage… if you want to.”

“It might be late.”

“That’s fine.” I wouldn’t be sleeping anyway.

Then she pushed through the door, her fiery trail of hair the last part of her to disappear from view.

APRIL

Stepping back into the tasting room, I caught sight of Heather’s hand waving over heads, beckoning me over. I plastered a smile on my face, holding the bottle of forty-seven aloft like an explanation as I wound in her direction. The tasting room was a lot emptier than when I left, the band had finished their set and were lazily packing away instruments while picking over the last of the food. “Sorry—” I started to say, then noticed Callum at her side, with what I could only describe as a shit-eating smirk on his face. I’d abandoned him the moment our dance ended to go in search of Mal, never thinking he might follow. There was no way he could have seen us. Could he have?

“There you are, I was beginning to think you’d gotten a better offer,” he said smoothly as I neared. His hand extended to me, palm up. I stared at it. I wasn’t sure what he was asking but I knew I couldn’t take it.

“You have something on the back of your dress,” Heather said, a little divot of genuine confusion appearing between her brows.

“Oh.” I startled, twisting my skirts around. Not just something, black grease-like smudges stained the entire back of the fine material.Shit.“I must have brushed up against something in the dunnage.” My voice was high as I scrambled to smooth the marks away.

“Something dirtyfor sure,” Callum agreed. My fingers froze. He knew—the bastard definitely knew. I stepped on his toes on my way to the bar. He only laughed loudly and followed, Heather right on his heels.“I haven’t seen Mal for a while either.”
