“I have no plans to resurrect anybody else right now. Not until I talk more about this with Grandmother. Bad enough Alexander forced me to do it once.”

Bridget nodded again. “Good. I’ll arrange a video call as soon as possible. This is a conversation we should have face-to-face. But I realize there is still much to do to clear up this whole mess here in St. Louis before you can even think about traveling to Boston. I’ll remain here to help until you choose one of those candidates I brought as your Understudy.”

That inspired a surge of relief. “I’m happy to hear that. Thank you. We’ll talk more back at Donnelly Manor once we’ve had a chance to rest. There will be rooms for all of you there.”

She nodded. “Thank you, niece. Allow us to ensure your sister’s body is returned to the Manor. The three of you can go. I know you’re worried about the girls.”

Truer words had never been spoken.

Shea, Finn, and I hurried outside and along the sidewalk. Sanai and our Pack escorts fell in around us, ensuring no waiting enemies could ambush us. I wasn’t surprised to see Connor, Regina, and my mother leading the rest of our forces down the sidewalk. Someone must have called ahead to let them know we’d won the battle.

I allowed myself a moment to give thanks that everyone I loved so much had survived. But then I remembered Kayleigh’s body lying in that casket and corrected myself.Almostall of those I loved had survived.

My mood darkened further when I thought about how Alexander had so easily slipped out of our grasp. This battle may have been won, but the conflict was by no means over. Alexander was still out there, intent on forcing me to help him resurrect my grandfather and bring down my grandmother. There were still traitors and secret factions out there intending to start another War of Succession.

Before my thoughts could grow too bleak, though, my bonded wolves pressed close to me. They sent loving, supportive emotions through our tethers and I drew strength from that. My mother and Regina stepped forward, each holding the hand of one of our nieces. I drank in the sight of them, paying special attention to Rory. Her eyes appeared normal once again, which was a relief. She chattered to her sister like usual, and then she let out a happy cry when she recognized us. Both nieces flung themselves forward and hugged first me and then Shea, Finn, and Connor.

I allowed myself to relax enough to return their embraces and smile. For now, I would celebrate with those I loved. The lingering conflict and potential consequences from using Shadowed Radiance could wait. With these wolves by my side, with the emotions still growing between us to further strengthen me, I knew we could get through anything. Together.
