I look across to the other side of the club and catch Virgo signaling to me.

He's been away on business all day. I didn't expect to see him tonight, but he said he'd drop by if he got the chance so we could talk. We were going to meet in the morning to brainstorm our plans for Jason. As he’s here, we may as well do it now.

I point upwards, letting him know I'm heading to the lounge.

He nods and walks through the door on that side that will take him there.

Another quick glance at the entrance below and I turn to go.

She’s not coming, Dante. And it’s for the best.

I shouldn’t get myself in any more trouble by getting mixed up with a woman who's completely off limits to me.

I make my way up the steps, and minutes later, I'm in the lounge.

Virgo is already there talking to the bartender who's a pretty blonde with a bob and a silver halter-neck top. She's new. One of the new girls Virgo hired.

His type is pretty and blonde.

Most of the girls here who fit that description were hired by him.

"Are you sure I can’t entice you into a drink?" she asks, shaking up a canister of ice.

Virgo smirks and gives her a smile. "No, I need to be sober to speak to this guy." He glances at me. "Maybe later, though."

"I'll hold you to that." She gives him a seductive wink.

I get his undivided attention when he turns away from her, then cocks his head toward the booth where we always sit.

This lounge is also where we have meetings with clients who want to hire the function rooms for various reasons, whether it's for a party or other secret meetings. A little like the one we’re about to have.

Anything like this is best discussed face to face. Our phones are equipped so that no one can listen in on conversations, but there's always a chance that someone could. There's always some high-tech hacker who can get through a system or find a loophole to jump through.

We sit opposite each other, and I notice he's carrying an envelope.

The table between us already holds a bottle of scotch and everything set up for us to drink, so I pour us each a glass.

“Jason is going on a business trip to Japan with Igor. They have a contract with the Japanese government.”

“Jesus, are you serious? The Japanese?”

“Yes.” I quickly fill him in on the details about the contract. "It would be to have this wrapped up by the time they return.”

“Maybe we can.” He brings his hand to his temple. “I found a weird encryption in Jason’s emails. I’m working on decoding it. Maybe it’s not what we want, but we’ll see.”

The thought of finding another lead gives me hope. “A weird encryption sounds exactly like something you’d use to hide a secret plot.”

“Exactly. I just need some time, but the fact that I can’t decrypt it is suspicious enough. Jason has a type of security you’d expect the president to have.”

“In real life, too.” I smirk. “Even when he looks like he's alone, he's not. There are eyes on him all the time, whether it's from his private security team or the team Igor has provided him with.”

We have something similar so we can have access to our men within minutes if I need to, but not like Jason.

“Fuck.”

“I know, but let’s worry about that part when we have to cross that bridge.”

“Yeah. One step at a time.” He agrees. “So, for now, we’ll keep doing what we’re doing for now. Hopefully this encryption will tell us something.”
