An hour later, I’m at the club.

It's my turn to close tonight and do the accounts. I quickly get into that because I don't want to be here for too long after closing.

I'm just going over the money from the bar sales when there's a knock at my door.

“Come in,” I call out.

I'm surprised when the door opens and Igor walks in.

I can count the number of times he’s been to any of my clubs on one hand. Igor is very, very old school, so he doesn’t believe he should be anywhere like this without his wife.

It's also almost midnight, and he’s supposed to be leaving for Japan tomorrow morning with Jason.

“Uncle,” I say, standing to greet him.

“Hey, there.” He dips his head and taps my shoulder.

“Did you get my message?” I consider that he might not have because this visit is so unusual for him.

“Yes, I got the message. Thank you for handling that for me.”

“Of course. How is Maxim doing?” Maxim is the brigadier whose family was killed by Davide. He’s been a longtime friend to both my father and uncle. That’s why I was sent to kill him.

“Not good. As you can imagine.”

“Yes. I hope our retribution will offer some justice for him.”

“It will.” Igor gives me a reassuring smile. “So, I just came to see you. That’s all.”

“Oh.”

“I wanted to ask you if you wouldn't mind checking in at the company while I’m away. I’ve been meaning to talk to you about popping in from time to time, but I’ve only now gotten around to it.” He chuckles.

“That’s okay, and sure, I can do that.”

“That’s good to hear. I think that after everything that's happened with your father, it would be good for the people at the company to see your face. It is your company, too, after all.”

That makes me think of the conversation I had with Virgo the other day about his family business, but unlike him, I don’t have to fight for my legacy.

“I guess you run things so well I forget sometimes.”

“I understand, and you seem to be doing very well here.” He smirks. “The place is packed, boy.”

I grin. “You actually looked at the dance floor?”

“I did. I was just curious to see how many people would be out so late.”

“Business has been good.”

“Well done. In any event, I want you to be included when it comes to Levitsky Corp. Your father would want that.”

I nod, appreciating his words of strength. “How about we talk some more when I get back and see what we can arrange?”

“Sure.” Years ago, I’d find some excuse to avoid returning to the company, but I'm actually honored he asked. And he’s right—my father would want me there.

With the setup Virgo and I have, I could easily hire an extra manager to cover my duties, and as I don’t work during the daytime, I could be at Levitsky Corp.
