Luciana turns her head slowly, an unhinged expression on her face.

“Drop the gun,” my wife says in a low, cold tone.

She dangles it from her finger, and it drops on the bed.

She turns fully to us, glancing at the guns with a look of boredom.

“I have to give you this round. I still have three bullets on you.”

It was the wrong thing to say considering what she did. A bullet rings through the air, and she clutches her arm, her eyes incredulous while my wife stares her down.

“There will be no more fucking rounds. I’d rather kill you.”

Luciana hisses, gripping her arm.

“Firecracker, we promised Enzo she’ll be alive.”

She just got shot, knew very well she could have died, but it’s his name that has the color draining from her face.

“Kill me now.” She starts to taunt my wife, but Chiara saw that, too.

“I made my point clear.” She gets in her face. “You owe me two bullets, and if I ever hear you’re even in the vicinity of Boston, I will deliver them.”

I watch my wife in complete fascination. Seeing she can’t persuade Chiara, Luciana turns to me. “Give me an honorable death. I fucking deserve it.”

“No.” I give a sign, and two guards approach, one tying her hands and ankles. The other flicks a syringe. I ordered two of my men to come and take care of the package delivery. They brought me something else, too.

“Sweet dreams, because by the time you wake up, you’ll be in hell.”

She yanks at her ties, but the drug knocks her out.

When they carry her body, I type a message to Enzo.

Your package is on the way.

“Feeling better after you won the cat-and-mouse game?” my wife asks once we’re alone.

“Yes.”

I needed it. To get back to the frame of mind where I’m on top of my game, invincible. Because I have an empire to run along with my brothers.

“Good. How was I?”

“Perfect.”

“Bet she didn’t expect me to shoot her. Seeing that smug expression wiped off her face was worth it. No one messes with us.”

I show her the syringe with the microchip.

She flicks her hair back, tilting her head to the side. “I trust you with my life. No one has loved me like you, amore mio. Our life is dangerous. I accept whatever measures help in our safety. And I get access to yours. It’s only fair.”

I chuckle and after I prick her skin, I toss the syringe aside, kissing the spot on her neck.

She grins, and I press her to my chest, holding my life safely tucked in my arms.

“You have no idea how much I love you.”

“I love you too. Madly, Cato.”

I tuck her to my side and kiss her temple, savoring this peaceful moment.

Scooping her up, I carry her to the bed, and lose myself in my wife.

I watch her chest rise and fall in sleep and I breathe the breeze in, the curtain fluttering as the sun’s rays dance on the sheets. I’m calm, at peace, content. Her fingers draw patterns on my chest, kissing the spot under which my heart beats, for her.

“Love you, vita mia. My perdition, my greatest gift, my biggest blessing.”

“And I love you, Cato, my beloved sinner.”
