“I’ll fall.”

“No, you won’t. I’ve got you.”

She looks at me with round, terrified eyes, but also a glimmer of trust. My heart twitches in my chest when she offers me a small nod and starts climbing. My eyes trail after her, having an unobstructed view of her perfectly-round ass cheeks. What a fucking view. When she’s up, she yanks the window open and slips inside. Kieran kisses Aurora one more time and helps her up the ladder, pushing her up by her ass, and she giggles.

I leave before I punch my best friend out of sheer envy for what he has.

When we get back in the car, we chuckle, shaking our heads. We didn’t have to sneak out, not even when we were younger.

We drive straight to my penthouse, and once in my office, I pour myself a whiskey, saying, “You’re softer around Aurora.”

“She’s my wife, and I don’t want her to be afraid of me.”

“Do you think she’ll try to escape again?”

“No.”

“I hope you’re right, man. At least one of us won’t have to sleep with one eye open.”

“Not anymore.”

The corners of my lips arch up. “Chiara might hate me, but her anger will just make her burn hotter for me.”

“Who’s the confident idiot now?”

“Have you found out anything about the guy Aurora has been talking to?” I ask, referring to Aurora’s elusive guy, who came out of nowhere just before she married Kieran. We don’t need any more problems. We have enough of those.

“I’m waiting for her to tell me.”

I swirl the drink in my hand, taking a sip, but Chiara’s taste still lingers.Oh, the things I will do to you, cara. Tick-tock. Not even twenty-four hours before she’s mine. Fucking finally.

“If he thinks he can get through us, he’s dangerous.”

“Or plain stupid. Either way, let him come. Or better yet, let him come and find out she wants to stay with me.”

“You’re one tactical bastard.”

He taps his finger over his mouth. “It’s how we not only stay in the game but rule it.”

Chapter 13

Aurora hushes me, dragging me farther into the room. My head is buzzing and my movements are sluggish, a combination of alcohol and tiredness. It could also be because of how hard Cato made me come. I could have rocketed straight into the sky and caressed the clouds.

“That was exhilarating. I thought my heart would explode. I really wanted to see my father’s face.”

“Stop provoking him,” she hisses in exasperation.

I raise my hands, huffing. “He’s not a true father. What father would treat his daughter like that?”

“It could have been worse,” she reminds me of what her father did to her, her blue eyes with a golden flicker turning sad.

“Just because you’re okay with this doesn’t mean I will ever be.”

“What happened at the club? Where did you disappear to?”

My cheeks heat. “The idiot thinks I’m hot for him.”

I’m not. What happened was a lapse in judgment. It seems I have quite a lot of those when he’s around.
