“Far more than I’d ever want with you,” I grind out. “Now, let me…” I shove him again, this time making headway. “…the fuck go!”

And I’m free. Wasting no time, I go straight for the front door so I can get the hell out of this house. Clicking the lock first, I pull open the door. “Scar?”

She walks beside me, avoiding eye contact, while combing her fingers through her hair. “Why’d you lock the door?”

“I…” My words trail off because she needs to answer my questions first. “Where were you?”

Her eyes wander to Cade before coming back to me. She leans close and whispers, “Neo sent me a text to meet him in the shed out back.” Her eyebrows waggle and I make a note to shave them off when she’s sleeping.

“You left me here alone…” My voice rises with each word that leaves my mouth. “…to go have sex with Neo in a shed?”

“Ry,” she whispers. “Would you quiet down? There are people here.”

I follow her gaze over my shoulder and see that Cade has been joined by two guys and a girl—that girl being Melody.

Where the hell did they come from?Must’ve come through the back door because I searched this house high and low and no one was home.

Cade tosses an arm around Melody’s shoulder and pulls her close. “Don’t quiet down on our account. This was just getting good.”

Melody bursts out laughing, taking advantage of this opportunity. “As I said earlier, ladies, some hellions never change.” Her words are directed at us and I’d love nothing more than to shove them back down her throat.

“Fuck off, Melody,” Scar snaps.

Melody crawls out of Cade’s arm and walks toward us, one foot in front of the other as her heels clank against the hardwood floor. “The shed? Really, Scarlett. Are you and your boyfriends really that trashy?”

“Fuck off,” I snap at Melody. “At least we don’t associate ourselves with rapists.” My eyes land on Cade’s, but no one seems to notice except him. I’m not even sure if what Scar told me is true, but after today, I’m almost certain it is.

“Rumors like that aren’t taken lightly around here,” Melody warns. “Might wanna keep your mouth shut before someone shuts it for you.”

Scar lunges at Melody, but I grab her by the waist. “Scar,” I warn. “She’s not worth it, babe.”

She puts up some resistance but allows me to drag her to the door before she does something she’ll regret. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that she’d demolish Melody’s face, if given the chance. Scar is feisty, and someone you don’t want to piss off.

Once we’re out the door, I kick it shut and Scar curses at the sky. “That stupid fucking bitch. One of these days…” Her hands grip both sides of her head in frustration. “…one of these days I am going to destroy that girl. Should’ve done it back at The Academy when there were fewer witnesses.”

While she’s going on about Melody, all I can think about is Cade’s grubby hands all over me. If Scar hadn’t come when she did, he could have dragged me up to his room and raped me. Chills skate down my spine at the thought.

I’m learning really fast that the guys here don’t fuck around. If they want something, they take it.

After Scar has calmed down and I’ve pulled her back three times from trying to get into the house and kicking Melody’s ass, we head down the campus bike trail and back to our dorm.

We’re five minutes into the walk, and Scar has finally stopped ranting about Melody. After a minute of complete silence, she finally says, “What happened with you and Cade while I was gone? He didn’t try anything with you, did he?”

I’m sort of at a loss for words because if I say yes, I know Scar will tell Crew, Jagger, and Neo and there’s no doubt they’ll raise hell over it. The last thing I want is for the student body to think I’m a problem starter. “No,” I lie, “he didn’t try anything.”

Stepping onto the paved part of the trail and out of the woods, the snap of a branch grabs my attention. When I follow the sound, I meet Ridge’s gaze. He’s leaning back on the trunk of a large tree with the hood of his sweatshirt pulled up. One leg is kicked up behind him, and in his hands are two broken branch pieces. He drops them to the ground before reaching up and grabbing another. His eyebrows cave in, nostrils flared, and he snaps the branch in two, my body jolting right before I break the stare and keep walking.

Cade is definitely a creep, but maybe he was right about Ridge. What if he is a freak? A freak I let enter my room and watch me sleep.

CHAPTER7

RIDGE

With the bladepressed to my prey’s neck, I drag it across his flesh with enough pressure to slice through his vocal cords.

Even if he survives this, he won’t be talking.

Contrary to how it seems, I don’t enjoy taking lives, but it’s an outlet when Riley pisses me off. Much like today. I saw her talking to Cade in front of Kappa Rho. She was flirting! My girl was fucking flirting with another guy right in front of me! I had to get away before I did something I’d regret, and this life that I just took had to be taken, regardless. What better time than when I’m feeling vengeful?
