Thoughts skate through my mind that I try to shut down, but they keep creeping back in like a sex fiend at a whore house. If this guy drugged Riley, that means she wasn’t in her right mind.

No. She wouldn’t. She couldn’t.

“All right then.” Maddox continues, “So, Zeke must’ve gone to her room after he jumped you. Then, somehow, he managed to throw himself out the window out of guilt, crashing through tempered glass, stabbing his own jugular. Or, someone pushed him and finished him off while he was already on the ground. Something tells me this was no accident.” His tone is stern. “Someone killed him.”

I have to ask the question weighing heavily on my mind. I need to know what he thinks. “And you think it was her?”

“Not at all. I think someone is setting her up.”

Maddox reaches his hand into the front pocket of his jeans. “There’s something I need to…” He’s cut off when the door opens.

Lev steps in, flips his hood down, and goes to drop his keys on the table. “What the hell happened to that?”

Maddox raises his empty hand from his pocket. “I tripped.”

“Can’t even stand on your own two feet. Typical.” He drops his keys anyway and they slide down the tipped table. “Did you guys see all the cops on campus? Rumor has it someone committed suicide. Any idea who it was?”

I kick my feet up on the coffee table and rest my head back. “Zeke Martin.” I don’t elaborate on the details because, once again, the less Lev knows, the better. “Where have you been?”

“Meeting.” He returns to the matter of Zeke. “So it’s the same fucker who jumped you last night?”

I nod.

“Damn. And here I thought we were gonna have some fun with that shithead.”

Maddox and Lev keep talking, but all I can think about is Riley. I can’t imagine how she’s feeling right now, knowing some creep came into her room and fucking touched her.

Every damn time I think about it, my blood boils and I wanna break shit.

“I gotta get outta here.” I drop my feet from the table and stand up. Still wearing the same bloodstained joggers I’ve had on since last night, I grab my jacket off the hook and leave without another word.

Tapping my knuckles to the door, I hope for the best because, if it comes down to it, I’ll use the key I have to her room.

“Go away,” Riley hollers from the other side.

I turn the handle to no avail, then knock again. “I just wanna talk.”

“Oh, now you wanna talk? Maybe you should have tried that days ago before you pushed an innocent guy out my window.”

“Zeke was far from innocent.”

“So you admit it? You pushed him?”

“No, I didn’t push him.”

“I don’t believe you.”

I knock harder and louder, hoping she’ll get annoyed enough to let me in. Or, at the very least, the other girls in this dormitory will get pissed and demand she let me in. Either way, I’m going inside.

“Let me in the fucking room, Angel. This won’t end the way you want it to.”

“Are you gonna push me out a window, too?”

My cheek presses to the door and I trail my fingers on it in the shape of a heart. “I’d never hurt you. I’d allow myself to bleed out before letting any pain come to you.”

“Liar! I felt pain last night and where were you?”
