“No,” Scar blurts out, honestly, while I shake my head no. Even if it’s very possible I did have an encounter with him last night. Now, I might never know.

“How close are you with Ridge Foster?”

My neck draws back in confusion. “What does Ridge have to do with this?”

“Did either of you witness the fight between the two of them last night?”

“Fight?” I gasp. “What fight?”

Officer Dangle—which is the name on his badge—quirks a brow. “I’m going to assume that’s a no?”

“No,” I say, “I didn't even know Ridge had a fight with Zeke. I mean, I saw the bruises, but, to be honest, I hardly know Ridge, so I didn’t press him on it.”

The officer writes a few more things down then waves his hand in the air, allowing us to get out. “We’ll be in touch if we have any further questions.”

My thoughts elude me. I feel like I’m living in some sort of fucked-up nightmare.

Who came into my room last night? Who did I allow in my bed? Was it Zeke? Did Ridge find out and track Zeke down, only to get his ass beat by him—before he killed Zeke?

CHAPTER20

RIDGE

“What the fuck did you do?”Maddox charges at me the second I walk in the door to our dorm room. When he knocks me into the couch, I simply sink down, getting comfortable.

I’ve got no idea what he’s pissed about when I’m the one who should be livid.

“It was you, wasn’t it? You saw that bastard in her room and pushed him out the window.”

“Are you kidding me right now? Shut the fuck up.” I jump to my feet. “I didn’t lay a hand on Zeke.” I point to the twin black eyes on my face. “As you can see, he’s the one who attacked me.”

“And you retaliated. Didn’t you?”

“I came home last night and passed the fuck out. Didn’t even go to Riley’s room.”

“How’d you do it, Ridge? Did you push him then jab his throat with glass or was it the other way around?”

Springing to my own defense, I shove Maddox until he crashes into the round table, tipping it over. “How about you tell me where you were last night? Was it you that crept into Riley’s room and had your way with her?”

I know damn well it wasn’t Maddox. He isn’t capable of such a heinous act, but the fact that he’s questioning me pisses me off. He doesn’t know what I’ve done, or plan to do, to protect Riley, so he should have no reason to assume I’d go to those kinds of lengths.

Maddox shifts upward, his elbows pressed to the table with his legs dangling off the side. “Someone went into Riley’s room last night?”

I can’t even fathom the idea of what happened in that room last night. Can’t even get the words out to tell Maddox that someone…drugged her, touched her, used her body.

Offering him a hand, I pull him off the table. “Yeah. Someone fucking did. She thought it was me, but as I mentioned, I came home and passed out with ice packs on my face.”

He lifts a brow. “Wasn’t me. You think it was Zeke?”

I make my way back over to the couch, calmer than I was a second ago. Fighting over this will get us nowhere. “It looks that way, and if the guy were still alive, I’d fucking kill him.”

“I wouldn’t repeat that if I were you. The last thing you need is your name connected to that guy. You’re already gonna be on their radar from the fight.”

“Doesn’t matter. They ruled it a suicide. Just like they did with the governor.”

“But we know better. And so do The Elders.” He side-eyes me, and I know I’m not gonna like his next words. “You don’t think Riley…”

“No!” I blurt. “Not a chance. This is Riley we're talking about. The girl is a fucking angel.”
