“You don’t have to. I see you for what you are. A home-wrecker.”

My arms cross over my chest and I lift my chin. “Your names don’t hurt me, Lev.”

He closes the gap between us, breathing down my neck. “My names don’t have to when my hands can get the job done.”

His eyes sweep left, then right, before his nose rests mere inches from mine. “I don’t like you. I’ve got no idea what my friends see in you, but to me, you’re everything that’s wrong with The Society. You might have them fooled, but you’re not fooling me.”

“You keep saying that, but I have yet to understand how I am trying to fool anyone.”

The corners of his lips tug up in a grin and it’s a look that unnerves me. Chills shimmy down my arms and I hug myself tighter.

“I’ll tell you what. I’ll let you live to see another day as a Blue Blood by keeping your dirty little secret.”

I open my mouth to speak, but he shuts me right back up.

“I’m not finished. You’re going to do exactly what I say. You’re my little pet now and my petswillobey. And if you tell a single soul about any of this, your secret will be the least of your worries.”

“I’m not scared of you, Lev.”

“You should be. I’m your worst fucking nightmare.”

“I don’t have any secrets.” My voice cracks, breaths shaky. “So good luck trying to tattle on me.”

“Is that so? I happen to know, and have proof, that you killed our former state governor. Is that not a secret you’re trying to keep?”

My chest rattles as I fight to fill my lungs. “You have nothing.”

Lev reaches into the pocket of his jeans and pulls out his phone. A second later, he’s holding it up. I gasp at the video playing and the sounds that ring out.”

I choke up, my words barely recognizable. “Where the hell did you get that?”

“Next time you kill someone, you might want to make sure there’s no video evidence lying around.”

Jagger. He told us he recorded the whole thing. Said he would keep it safe and only use it if we needed proof of how the whole thing went down.

“That proves it was self-defense. You’ve got nothing.”

“That’s where you’re wrong. At least four local Elders are fighting to clear the governor’s name. A lot of people didn’t like him, but a few did. This video shows a member killed him. That’s all they care about. So, Trouble,” he jerks down the zipper of his jeans, “do you spit or swallow?”

My feet don’t stop as I take off down the hall as quickly as I can. Tears drip down my face and I mentally prepare myself for one of two options: turn myself in or do exactly what Lev tells me to do.

One problem was solved today, but an even bigger one arose.

Snowflakes coat my lashes as I walk at a leisurely pace, in no hurry to face Scar, or anyone for that matter. I can’t tell her. Lev threatened me, and I take him to be a man of his word. He wants to destroy me and I’ve got no doubt he will if I don’t do everything he asks of me.

My phone buzzes in the pocket of my jacket so I pull it out and read the text message, while seeing I have two unread ones.

Maddox: I’m sorry I couldn’t walk you home after class. Everything is over. The planted evidence. The bodies. Zeke. It’s over, babe. We know who it was and he’s being dealt with.

Not responding, because I’m not sure how to, I read the next one.

Scar: Staying with the guys tonight. Think Maddox will want to stay with you?

I don’t respond to her either. I’ve got nothing to worry about back at the dorms. Zeke is dead. Ridge and Maddox have handled Cade. I’m still not sure what they’ll do to him, but I’m sure I’ll find out tomorrow if he’s sporting more broken bones.

Ridge: You’re safe, Angel. I’ve got you!

I should feel relieved. Should be grateful that the nightmare has ended. But how can I be when another has begun?
