“That makes sense. Since you looove Batman.”
“He is the best. When I grow up, I want to have a car like Batman.”
“Could I be Robin. So, I can ride in it with you?”
“I thought you like Superman.”
“I do, but if I want to ride in the Batmobile with you, I will have to be Robin.”
He holds his hand out and I take it. His hand is warm and clean compared to my fingernails, but he doesn’t care, or he doesn’t mind. “Alright, deal.”
“Promise.”
“I promise, Rubi. No one but you.”
“Rubiana?” I hear Tyler’s voice calling out my name and I shake my head, snapping out of my memory.
I look over at Tyler, and then out the passenger window where I see Jen and Ky. Jen is giggling. “Freak. I told you she has a thing for you, Ky.”
Shit.
“I’m sorry. I was waiting for them to go inside the school so I can walk to my locker,”I say looking at Tyler.
“Is Ky bothering you? You can tell me. I’ll have another talk with him.”
I open the door to climb out of his truck. “Don’t worry. I can handle Ky. I’ll just stay out of his way.”
He nods and gets out of his truck, and I make my way inside the school. Another piece of my past. Another memory tarnished. Sometimes I think he is doing it deliberately, or maybe it’s in my mind and I made up something that was really not there.
I pull out my phone and text Cesar.
Rubi: Why are guys immature assholes?
Cesar: Because we think with our dicks.
Rubi: Figured you would tell me the truth and be honest.
Cesar: Who’s the asshole?
Rubi: No one important.
Not anymore.
Cesar: If he is messing with you, it’s because he likes you and wants a reaction.
Rubi: Not this guy.
Cesar: Want me to fuck him up?
I snort. That would be something. As much as it sounds appealing, since Ky is an asshole to me, I would never want to see him hurt.
Rubi: No. None of that would serve any purpose except get people hurt. It wouldn’t change anything.
Cesar: Always the good one. It’s what I love about you, Rubi. If he keeps bothering you, will you tell me?
Rubi: No.
Cesar: Why? ;)
