He pulls them out of his mouth, removing his leg between mine and leans close as he lowers his voice. “You have this darkness that calls to me, Rubi. A darkness I want to explore. A darkness that feeds me. I get drunk off of it like a drug. It’s become my addiction because I know that it’s caused by something evil that lives inside of all of us. It’s an evil that is more dangerous because we all have it. It’s when we act on it that it becomes something out of control. You have dealt with it for so long, but I want to know what caused it.

“Why?” I croak, closing my eyes.

He leans forward and rubs his nose up the side of my face, sniffing my skin while he grins and licks his lips. “Because when I find it,” he says in a rasp. “When I see what it is, what is breaking you inside, whoever did it will understand what it means to have fucked with something that is mine.” My mouth drops open as he inserts a hand between my legs and cups my pussy with his palm. “This is mine. Be ready when I come for you.”

I didn’t even see him shut the stall door, but after he pulls his hand away, he double-checks that my top is covering my breasts before banging shut the door on the way out, leaving me breathless.

After leaving the bathroom, I made it back to my seat to watch halftime and the band and to see Abby’s routine on the dance team. It is nothing to go crazy about, but then I narrow my eyes and notice Jen, Nicole, and another girl I have seen Tyler with walking down the halls at school.

They are all laughing behind her back with their pom-poms over their faces and I bet they want Abby to look foolish when she is out there. The routine with the other girls isn’t bad, but they use an old song, and the steps are out of sync with the beat. It looks like a middle school performance.

Abby looks over at me and bites her lip knowing the routine wasn’t’ memorable.

My eyes scan the bottom of the bleachers involuntarily, but I can’t help it. What happened in the bathroom was hot. It was possessive and crazy. I should regret it, but deep down I don’t. I inwardly smile because he obviously didn’t find me ugly enough when he went out of his way to kiss me or taste me. I file that fact away for later. If he wants to play fuck games, I’m all for it. He wanted me to stay away from him, but the question is, can he stay away from me?

His black hair felt like fine silk between my fingers, and I could feel the definition of his chiseled back through his white shirt. His cologne lingered on my hands for a while. I really dislike my seat since I can’t see Ky’s reaction when Jen looks at him and smiles knowingly.

Was what happened earlier real or a lie? I shouldn’t read too much into it. I got my kiss. A kiss I wondered what would feel like if I ever saw him again when I was older. But I have to admit, physically, Ky is everything.

He stands and his jeans sit low on his narrow hips, indicating a flat stomach but with strong thighs. He has a chain hooked in his jeans and tattoos placed in different areas on his skin. When he was up close, my favorite was the one that is vertically on his neck. It read:Darkness lives in all of us.It made sense with what he told me in the bathroom earlier.

My darkness attracts him.

But can it tame him?

AFTER THE GAME,I see Abby looking defeated even though Westlake prep beat Georgia High 34-31. I catch up with her in the parking lot as I try to avoid Ky. I want to hold onto the memory of what happened earlier for a little while longer before he goes cold.

“Was it that bad?” she asks me with her bag over her shoulder with a look of defeat on her face.

I scrunch my face and tilt my head playfully. “It wasn’t bad…but it wasn’t memorable.”

She blows a puff of air out of her mouth. “It sucked. I know it did, and I’ve tried to change it with the other girls, but they always need approval from the cheer captain.”

I pinch my brows in confusion. “Why? It isn’t her routine.”

“I know and I hate the music and a lot of things about the choreography.”

“Change it and don’t tell them shit. Come up with a new routine and perform it at the next game. When they see the crowd likes it,” I shrug a shoulder. “They can’t say anything.” I cup my hand over my mouth when I hear the cheer squad and the football players headed our way. “Make sure the music is bomb as fuck, and make sure you outshine them. They suck.”

Abby flashes me a pearly grin as Tyler, Conner, Ky, Chris, and three other players head over with the cheerleaders not far behind, but her smile rapidly fades as they get closer and she spots Nicole. Since it is a home game, they don’t have to board a bus and can leave in their respective cars.

Nicole and her grating voice filters through the conversation. “Damn, Abby. That wasn’t what we practiced. You need to work on that routine.”

Giving her a hard glare, I hope she trips and falls on her face. “What are you looking at, street rat?” She crosse her arms and juts her hip out. “I see you’re trying to fit in.”

Jen gives me a smirk, eyeing me up and down. “I think she wants to attract attention.”

“Funny, what you need to worry about is your lame ass routine before you go shutting other people down. Come to think of it, didn’t you come up with it?” I say, putting it out there that the whole routine was her idea, and now she is giving Abby shit about trying to embarrass her. The school for whatever reason has the cheer captain head of the dance team and cheer team.

“Come up with what?” She emphasizes the t in the end.

“That routine—and your cheer moves and the dance team’s routine. Shit is lame. A third grader on TikTok comes up with a better routine than that.”

“Oh, and you could do better? Don’t you have to go steal something or some shit.”

“Don’t you have to go and get on your knees like the easy skank you are.”
